he was quoting genesis. and that quote was in response to the specific question of whether a man can divorce his wife for any reason. so, hermetically, by using "wife" in his answer, he was not specifically excluding same-sex partners. he was just answering the question asked.

So what you are saying is that wife can actually mean "a man"?
