Oregon also hasn't hired "from outside their program" since the early '90s.

According to Phil Knight, there's an interesting tale as to how they sought out Chip Kelly (for OC).

How Dan Mullen helped Chip Kelly land the Oregon OC job

Knight was a huge Chip Kelly fan from the start and made a big push to have Kelly take over when Bellotti was ready to move on. Basically once Phil Knight and Bellotti figured out Crowton (Oregon's OC prior to Kelly) was getting fed plays by Chip Kelly they decided to cut out the middleman and just hire Chip Kelly as OC.

Only pointing this out because it's not like Oregon organically developed Chip Kelly. He was brought in as OC with the intent that he would take over ASAP. Knight was very high on him from day one.

Otherwise, you are correct. Rich Brooks is the last head coach Oregon hired from outside. Oddly enough, he played for Oregon State in the 60s.
