Recruit: Mack Brown told Texas commitments to 'look around'
quote:
I was at my official visit when Mack Brown resigned and he told us to go look around. [He said] he'll even talk to other coaches for you and everything because he really just wanted the best for us as players. -John Bonney
quote:
He's (Mack Brown) reportedly stayed on the university payroll as a special advisor to president Bill Powers. Last week the city of Austin declared January 30 "Mack and Sally Brown Day," an event covered by Texas's own official football site.

First he costs them Saban, now recruits..
Good thing his cronies are gonna keep him in fat UT checks for life.

this was posted on the MSB a few days ago but I don't recall a thread on here.

Okay. I think it pertinent to SEC recruiting so I won't RA here (don't know about anyone else though ). Thanks.

Mack Brown and DeLoss Dodds will do everything they can to ensure that their successors fail, even if it included outright sabotage.

This is what I found most odd. I understand his regard for what is best for those kids, but if he is still getting a paycheck from UT...I'm not quite sure why the administration doesn't cut all ties with him over this. That's assuming the story is accurate.

Hush money. Mack Brown gives off the persona as the consummate gentlemen, but he's as thin-skinned as President Obama...and as vengeful too.
If they cut ties, two things will happen.
1. Mack Brown will expose the t.u. athletic department and donors.
2. Red McCombs and Joe Jamail will reneg on their pledges.

We've been trying to tell y'all that the tu BMDs aren't gonna let Strong do well at any cost. They want to be the ppl who run the show over there and will do whatever thay can to retain their control of tu football. Even if it means destroying the whole program. Ego is a bitch ain't it.

This I can believe. I'll never forget a quick interview/slip of the tongue by Colt McCoy's gf/wife a while back: "I saw the guys getting free stuff all the time." Nothing ever came of it though.
You may well have a very good point.

Right now I think they have no 5 stars, some 4 and a whole lot of 3 stars for 2014...in the most talent rich state in the country.
Good for A&M and LSU though (and Arkansas if they can take advantage).

Most around here got just a small taste of their attitude and ego during the Saban to Texas BS. It is way worse than what y'all saw.

Not sure what Mack actually said, but other recruits who were at the same meeting claim that Bonney was somewhat confused by Mack's comments, even though he does sound pretty specific. Bottom like, however, is that Mack should have been fired after the 2009 season for a myriad of reasons. Good luck with the Tehuma bros.

Are you sure you don't mean the 2010 season? 2009 was the 13-1 season.

Goddamn that is a stupid comment.

That's the thing...I'm assuming the accuracy of the story but as far as I know Brown hasn't commented yet. As I said in OP, I get Brown's concern for recruits, but if this true, I don't see how the admin can pay him.

Mack Brown did us so many favors before leaving.
Shut down any hope of Saban to Texas
Told all their recruits to look around
Bad mouthed the AD publically
Tweets regularly when coaches get fired and acts like a jilted lover
Its just fantastic

Yeah you're right. All those years are a blur now.
