I think you have to look at Saban's time @ Miami in context. They were 4-12 the season before he came, and 1-15 the season after. He did a fine job with a bad franchise in retrospect. It's really too small a body of work to make too much of a judgement, but when Joey Harrington is your starting QB for most of a year, you know you have problems.

I think it's telling though that he'd be the #1 candidate today for any NFL job that he wanted if he had the itch to try the NFL again.

Jimmy Johnson is a great coach, but keep in mind his NFL success came with Dallas teams with 6 hall of fame starters and another 5-6 pro bowlers on board. Dallas was the last team you could build like that before the salary cap era changed everything. He also coached a 1-15 team during that tenure if you remember. Talented rosters makes all these guys look better.
