Committed to Ole Miss on 6/8/2013
Sustained a concussion during his senior season. Conflicting reports as to whether or not he has been cleared for contact.
He was just taken off Ole Miss' commitment list less than a week before signing day.
What's going on here and what's the protocol?

He hasn't been cleared yet. Horrible injury, forgot his own name for a week. What is unsure right now if he'll even be able to play football again or not. Last I heard we were looking into giving him a medical scholarship so he can still attend Ole Miss on scholarship while not playing football.

He didn't remember who anyone was for an extended period of time. His concussion made the one that ended Bohanna's career for us look mild.
Some talk that they are going to try to place him on medical scholarship at OM in the event that he never gets cleared to play. That said, I totally understand why they couldn't take a risk on signing him at this point even if he has recently been cleared for contact.
Concussions are a very slippery road to go down right now...

I think it's conflicting reports on whether or not he'll ever play again. Medical scholarship possible I believe

Preciate it
Hate it for the kid. After getting rated, yes even at a 3*, his senior year and committing to an SEC program it has to suck to be looking at this situation in his life.

Yeah, sad deal. Hope he is ok and we are able to keep him on scholly in case he is. He's just a kid and had a bright future. Hope it still is, as far as football goes, but it's deeper than that.

In the grand scheme of things, football is just a game. His health is much more important.

I see what you're saying and I agree with you, but for a lot of these kids football is their life.
Also, a vast majority wouldn't get the type of education that they end up getting without football (The ones that take advantage of it anyway), so let's hope this kid still gets to go to school regardless if he gets to play the game or not.

That sounds less like a regular concussion and more like the kind of Traumatic Brain Injury that effects accident victims, soldiers, and those who've been severely beaten/assaulted. Scary!
I've never heard of a school giving a medical scholarship to a recruit (thought they only did that for players) but if he isn't well it would be awesome if OM could do so.

A few years back there was a kid committed to Texas named Matt Nader. He was a 5* OT from westlake hs (same highschool that produced Drew Brees and Nick Foles).
His senior year he collapsed on the field during a game and they had to use a defibrillator to bring him back to life. They found some sort of heart condition and he could never play again. His family is well off so I'm not sure if he got a medical scholarship or what the deal was. But he spent his 4 years of school in the football program as a part of the team.
