Runners at 2nd and 3rd for us with one out in the 8th down 4-3. Back-to-back strikeouts. We get nothing.

This team has be one of if not the worst hitting team with RISP. It's a 50/50 shot whether our guys even make contact. Absolutely ridiculous.

No clutch hitting on our team. It's painful to watch.

Joey Pankake's mom was quite the topic of conversation today at the park.

As a sidewalk baseball fan that admits to knowing nothing, especially about college ball, how much of this years failures are players adjusting to a new coach, system, etc.? Do we have quality players capable of competing in the league or was this expected out of our team? Do coaches typically succeed in their first year at a new school?

Thanks in advance.

JMO but I think a lot of it is players not adjusting to the coach and system. I think that's partly on the players who aren't adjusting but more on Sunny for not communicating well to the players. The way he is mentally running them down privately and publicly is not working. He needs to try to be more positive and put the past behind them like Gus did when he came in as the Head football coach

Poor play was expected but we can now tell we have the players to win based on the very tight scores of our SEC losses(5 losses that went into extras or lost by 1, 2 losses by 2 runs). We could have easily won all 7 of those games and be 14-4 in SEC play. The problem has been not executing fundamentals, little things, and being much, much smarter on the bases.

Depends on the talent they have in their first year and how well they communicate with their players.

Thank you for the response E.

Has this always been Sonny's style? It seemed Oklahoma fans took issue with him after he left and I couldn't tell if they were sour grapes or him actually being an A-hole

Yes And OU fans had their issues with him while he was there too.

Golloway is a small ball guy to the core. I could be wrong but I think it will be even harder for him to win starting next year when college baseball starts using the minor league balls with tighter, lower seems that allow the balls to travel 5-10% further than the current balls.

I agree 180%. The players aren't buying in the way they should and Sonny is a bonafide a-hole. He needs to ease off a little and I think the players will come around a little quicker.

I agree for the most part but a short answer is not really, we lack a solid bull pen and we have an extreme lack of LHP on the staff.

Even with those deficiencies we could still easily be as high as 14-4 in conferences if we fielded solidly, ran the bases a lot better, and had correct hitting approaches with 2 strike counts and runners in scoring position

Which is scary if we can master fundamentals.

Right Now our record sits at(23-19) and has us going to Hoover. In order for us to be eligible to make a regional we have to be above .500 (i.e. at least 1 more win than losses). This means we need to finish our last 14 games at least (7-7) if we lose both games in Hoover. For every win we get in Hoover that is one more game we can lose before then (roughly).

The following is how I see us needing to go in order to qualify for a regional.

W Apr. 25th- @Arky
L Apr. 26th- @Arky
L Apr. 27th- @Arky
W May 2nd- MSU
W May 3rd- MSU
L May 4th- MSU
W May 6th- Bethune-Cookman
W May 9th- @Kentucky
L May 10th- @Kentucky
L May 11th- @Kentucky
W May 13th- UAB
W May 15th- LSU
L May 16th- LSU
L May 17th- LSU

Obviously if we lose on one of the fridays but win another day in the series were still fine. But we only need to avoid being swept in our final 4 SEC series, win both mid-week games, and win 1 SEC series to be a regional qualifier.

Also Our RPI should improve slightly as we play MSU, UK, and LSU. But we really need to win 3 or 4 more games in order to really help our RPI. We really need to get our RPI to #39 or better to have a shot.

Long Story short. We have a very real chance of qualifying for a regional but probably wont make one unless we go on a tear sometime in the next 5 weeks.

As of right now we are not projected in a regional but here is who is.
