I'd be interested in knowing the last time a 5* that was being recruited by an Alabama school went somewhere else.
Jameis Winston...

Tiano.
And it's not like Khane is a scrub. Look at his offer list.

Yeah, FSU goes into Alabama a bit.

Surprising enough, Winston is the only modern era(2003-present) 5*, out of AL, that didn't attend Bama or Auburn.

Just playing devils advocate here, but
LOTS of folks were saying the same thing about Fitzgerald last year.
Right, but our offer is part of that "offer list". What other offers does he have that have also told him to look around?

Req says this about every QB we commit without elite offers. It was the same with Fitz and Williams before him...
He has softened on the approach though...

Well he kind of has a point.

Dak had 2 BCS offers -- the same number as Tiano. More than Fitzgerald, who is developing the quickest of any QB we've gotten under Mullen IMO. If Mullen likes a QB enough to make them a priority and take them early, that's good enough for me personally. Too good of hit rate on those "primary" guys.
The longterm plan isn't in focus for me right now with how many we're getting -- but at least they are all athletes first and could potentially play other positions.
It seems it became clear that we weren't going to get Jawon no matter what happened with Khane -- at which time, we seemingly decided we liked McLaurin better...

Well it's not like Fitz or Williams have proven themselves. Williams looked ok for a true freshman though.

We hadn't even seen a glance of Dak at that point in his career. Williams looked pretty good when we let him. He's farther along as a passer in yr 1 than Dak was in his 2nd year for sure(not the runner Dak is though). Wasn't exactly unleashed other than the Bama game, where De'Runnya dropped the TD and Lewis dropped 2 first down passes.
Fitz is going to be legit. Pretty obvious in the spring game what the coaches saw in him that the rest of us couldn't. His passing development has a ways to go, but it's already come a very long way from where he started...

I definitely liked what I saw in the spring game from Fitz. He was impressive.
Still a long way from "legit" though.

And what have either proven so far? I'm sure you were fapping until raw when Williams, Mullen's 10th choice at QB committed.

No one can know this at this point in time. Not even Jawon.
Like I said above, if you have big bro on your team, then you have a legit shot.
Posted on 7/21/14 at 2:18 pm to Requiem For A Dawg
In the past 2 months Jawon has dropped us WAY down the list and even with his brother it's hard to out recruit the Ohio States, Bamas, and notre Dames of the world.

And if you take your 5th choice at S when the brother spurns you for his dream offer at Auburn?

You must not remember the argument we had about it. I wasn't fapping about it -- but I felt like he was a pretty good get for when/how we got him and that he'd have a chance to develop into a serviceable SEC QB.
What had Dak proven at this point in time last year? I'm pretty confused by the approach of trying to short-sell what we're seeing and hearing in practice and scrimmages about Williams and Fitzgerald with an "unproven" approach

He was halfway there in about 3 months on campus. His passing was night and day better than it was supposed to be by now. And that was with us taking away the strength of his legs in scrimmages...
Fitz is going to be a damn good player. The question is -- will he be better than Staley at QB -- or will he end up at TE/WR?
Our QB position overall is in the best condition I've seen it.

STFU, engie.

A dick, eat one.
You realize Fitzgerald was a pretty acclaimed WR as a JR, right?
You think we keep Staley and Fitzgerald both at QB for full careers at MSU? One will "win" that battle at some point.

I am interested to see how Staley reacts to the competition. I hope he has matured a bit.
