Now this makes sense. This might hurt stopping the run a bit, but pressure on the QB, and being able to run down the QB, is a much bigger plus.

We are currently built to beat teams like LSU. LSU is currently built to beat teams like A&M.

It really comes to match ups some times. I think we have slightly addressed this through recruiting. We had 2 freshmen get a lot of minutes on the D line this year and I think one of them, A'Shawn Robinson, finished the year leading the team in sacks. Da'Shawn Hand will hopefully be able to step in and to the same.

Plus the drop off from Hightower and Upshaw to guys like Adrian Hubbard has to be noted as well.

We are also very reliant on our corners being able to match up man to man and lock WR's down. The talent level at that position was also no where near the level it has been in previous years.

So the Nuss move is unrelated?

Most likely.

Which is what makes it so tough to go undefeated in the SEC. You need a defense that can stop teams like aTm and AU and also one that can stop LSU, UGA, USC, etc. The personnel needed is very different. I honestly have no idea how to build a defense that is great at stopping the pro style and the HUNH.

This is the primary reason for our defensive struggles this year. Our corners were middle of the pack SEC level. They were average at best. Nothing even close to what we are accustomed to. When you can't trust your corners to lock down a WR, it changes everything else you do defensively.
