As someone else pointed out earlier, College Literate, and Illiterate are not the same thing. They are factoring in Math scores as well.
I'm a bunch of years removed from High School/College. I probably would tank on an SAT math section now as I have never needed to use any of those equations for any job I've ever held. And I think that's a problem with public education. They need to be teaching these kids more life skills than ramming quadratic equations down their throat.

You don't have to do fancy math delivering pizzas? Is that what I'm hearing?

Actually those are called trade schools. If you want to work in HVAC or whatever, those schools exist. The purpose of math and other courses is to teach how to think, not what to think.

I would completely agree with that. There are some people that are not meant to go to college but can learn a trade and make good money.
My wife is a teacher. Basic math is not taught as much as it should be and teachers are pressured to teach to whatever standardized test the students have to take.

If you read the article they speak of ACT scores in reading. The score to be considered "College Literate" is a 16 in reading. College textbooks are written on a 9th grade level. If you are in a university and can't read at the 9th grade level, I feel sorry for ya.
