Why would Nick Jones leave?

Nick Jones? He will be a 5th year senior next yea, right? Thats the only reason I could see him leaving was that he was done with football. Definitely not going to the NFL.

From what I heard about Nick Jones is that he has graduated, so he will be eligible to go anywhere and play immediately. If Bruce comes back, and Byrd is healthy, Jones most likely wouldn't start next season. That would mean he's gotta find a starting job somewhere to get the PT necessary to get an NFL look.

Hampton
I thought this wasn't obvious? I thought he was waiting to get his grade back or something? Has there been any updates on that?
Also wasn't there news around here about a DB transferring to Coastal so he could play baseball too? Might've been Gurley but I can't remember.

A few weeks ago he gave an interview and said that he was interested in going Pro, he was going to send in his NFL Advisory Panel paperwork, and then make a decision based on that projection.
After the game yesterday, he said that he is going to go Pro, but he never even sent in that NFL Advisory paperwork. A reporter asked him where he's been told he'll land in the draft and he said "the 2nd or 3rd Round." Based on his career, that's not very likely. He's a great player, but he didn't even make All SEC this year. I could see UF's Purifoy, Roberson and Mizzou's Gaines all getting drafted ahead of him...and that's just guys from this conference. Then he has to go up against the rest of the nationally known CB's. Hopefully, he'll have a great Combine, he's going to need to help himself to break the 4th round.

CB Christian has transferred
OL Vonashek transferred
Those are the only ones most know about now....there were always rumors about others on the roster that haven't had much opportunities or haven't been able to move themselves up the depth charts, possibly looking elsewhere...

After reading twitter, I am assuming Kendrick Salley is transferring as well. Prob a good move on his part.

Darquez Dennard from Michigan State should be the first corner taken.
How the coaches allow the players to do something this stupid is kind of mindboggling. I'm mean all they have to do is point to Munnerlyn and Emanuel Cook. Both were told similar things that Hampton's heard I'm sure "second or third round" which is complete bullshite. One went in the 7th and the other wasn't even drafted.
Only reason I could think someone doesn't even put in their paperwork is because they know theyre not gonna get the answer they want and they don't want to hear it.
Just a really dumb move on Hampton's part. He comes back next year and hes probably preseason SEC and could play his way into the first round. At best he goes in the 4th round this year and thats if he has a ridiculous combine and pro day and interviews.

He may have been drafted late but I think Munnerlyn turned out alright becoming a starter a couple of seasons into his career. E.Cook however I'm not even sure is on a roster.

Cook played with the Jets, Bucs and Ravens since he went pro. He broke his leg before the '12 season and missed all of it. He's been working out since then trying to get back on a roster. He still talks really positive about the Gamecock as well. Also he's been rapping.

Yea and Cook had some success too but if they had come back they would have been drafted higher or period and made more money.
I mean I have no problem with kids going pro early if they know what they're in store for. Hampton is not gonna be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round and if hes leaving because he believes that then someone should let him know

I think I've written on it here before, but I really like walterfootball.com when I'm looking at draft rankings/projections. I've followed it for several years and in general, it's been pretty accurate.
Walt has Clowney going #2 to TB.
He moved Robinson up to #50 Overall and in the 2nd round.
As of yesterday he now added both Kelcy Quarles and Vic Hampton into the 3rd Round.... On his write up on each individual early NFL player (separate link) he said that KQ's move is either going to be boom or bust, but he said that Vic's early out was a bad move (he thinks he ceiling would be higher next year.)

Yeah, it's official now. Ellington is gone along with Hampton, Quarles and Clowney.

With Ellington gone and Jones possibly transferring I wonder what we're gonna see from Jeffery and Brent.

I'm not sure one, or both, of those guys will return. Depends a lot on spring practice from what I am hearing.
Jody Fuller is teetering on being the first to get the axe. Dude has some serious attitude issues.
Eta: I've still not gotten any final word on Kwinton Smith, but he's the best talent we've got returning other than Shaq if he can get his academic act together - and start, by attending class.

NFL Draft analyst Mike Detillier projects Ellington in the 3rd to 4th round.
Walter Football is mixed on the early decision. He wrote:
Bruce Ellington, WR, South Carolina
Height: 5-9. Weight: 196.
Projected 40 Time: 4.49.
Projected Round (2014): 3-5.
Bruce Ellington will be lucky to be chosen on the second day of the 2014 NFL Draft, so he's not making a very good decision by declaring. I don't think it's necessarily a bad choice though, as quarterback Connor Shaw won't be around next year. Plus, Ellington just had a great performance in his bowl game, so he has momentum on his side.
The Verdict: Mixed feeling
IMO, with Thompson at QB next season, Ellington would've been a 1000 yd receiver and Top 2 Rd pick. IMO, Ellington should have stayed and just focused on football.

Hate to see Bruce go, but I definitely wish him well. I feel the same way I felt about Ace last year, and that turned out alright.
Mark my words... Shaq Rolsnd will have 60 catches for 1000 yards next year. He and Pharoah Cooper will emerge as the playmakers on offense.
