Wow. To me Swing March and Will Tell are the 2 most important songs after the fight song and alma mater. Pretty unique to our school. I agree the band needs to bump up the tempo like the band used to play. I don't care for the arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner tbh. I think Dr. Knighten arranged it IIRC

Do you prefer the traditional Damrosch/Sousa arrangement? Not knocking you if you do, it's 'the classic'. I just enjoy the more modern harmonization of the version they are using now.

ETA: One thing that does bother me is that hardly anybody sings along with the Star Spangled Banner anymore. I do, by gosh. And proudly.

It's mostly the ending that bugs me. I prefer playing it without the slow down at the end. I think he tried to make it too grand and it just feels awkward for the crowd. They always cheer way before the end because nobody is used to it. I really like the version of Taps one of the grad students arranged for the 9/11 10th anniversary

Yeah, I was there! That is a great arrangement!
It caught my ear too!

Hey, I know everybody has different musical tastes, so that's great if folks still like the old Swing March and William Tell. It's just run it's course with me.

Its not like either of those songs are fricking Louie Louie.

They are both almost as traditional to alumni as the fight song. We've played both since the 1960s at least. But I wouldn't really expect you to care about stuff like that.

sounds like a solid GSD argument to me.

He could have said the "rock & roll" or "2001" and I wouldn't have cared.

But suggesting that William Tell and Swing March are "played out" to me sounds the same as someone suggesting we add green to our color scheme or something.

They are about as traditional as the hog call to me.

I shite bricks when they changed the pre game a few years ago and took out the marine march out....I'd die literally, if I ever saw the A march without the swing march....and William Tell makes add asses field like college students again by grooving in my seat area...I also like throwing my arms around with no care for the person next to me....

I don't think they are THAT ingrained into Razorback tradition.
It's not like they are our fight song and alma mater.
And I really don't think the band has been playing them 'since the 60's' but will not argue that point at the moment.
They are not 'unique' to Arkansas, lots of band have played them.
But like I said, if you like them, more power to you.
I never said they weren't 'good' pieces of music, just that they are worn out to my ears and I think we could come up with something better.
