Samson's troll thread got me thinking about the best bbq places in Ga. This summer I plan on going to about one a week. Can we make a list of places within an hour or so of Atlanta that I should try. I've already eaten at the following places. Where else is a good one and what should I get?

Dave Poe's
Fox Brothers
Zieglers
Big Shanty BBQ
Hudson's
Colonel Poole's
Wallace's
JD's
Community Q
Williamson Brothers
Beaver Creek BBQ

Places to go:
Fat Matts
Daddy Dz
Fresh Air BBQ
Hometown BBQ
Praise the Lard- Buford, GA
Smoke House- Oakwood, GA
The BBQ Shack- Athens, GA
Sprayberry's BBQ- Newnan, GA
Harry's- Athens, GA
Finchers
BubbaQ
Rooters
Hot Thomas's
Zeke's
BiggUns
Southern Pit

Im sorry i can't help ya with places around atlanta but I am glad to see that I'm not the only one that is obsessed with BBQ. I love to try new BBQ places all the time but I really enjoy cooking it myself.

I've heard great things about Fat Matts. That might be the first place I go.

I love to try new BBQ joints. I try to go to the local ones when we go out of town.

The map looks close to East Cobb so you're probably right.

I recommend the ribs or the brisket. Usually the girlfriend and I will will order those and share. I get the hot BBQ sauce on the side and dip the rib meat. The Mac and cheese is phenomenal and I love their potato wedges and beans as well. The cornbread is dense and sweet, which is different, but reay good. They have good lemonade as well (I usually get an Arnold Palmer with unsweet tea). Finally, a local lady from the neighborhood makes cakes for them - the strawberry cake is just amazing. You should also order the BBQ bites for an appetizer.

It's legit. The location is cool, too - right next to Oakland Cemetery. We just ate there on Sunday. I've been going there for 15 years. The service is excellet and the owner is usually there to visit inbetween orders. Great experience all around.

Ill check it out next time I'm in Atlanta. I'm a 100% rib guy when I eat at BBQ places and Matt's is the best I've had.

add...Beaver Creek Biscuits and Barbeque, Lithia Springs GA. to your list...

This place was absolutely packed by 11:30, drawing an enormous lunch rush from the businesses around Thornton Road, so plenty of people know where it is. Once you find this place, you're not likely to forget it, for it is terrific. This is easily among the best, if not the outright, hands-down best, pulled pork in the region.
