Recruiting question ...

Is Clemson taking any kids that we wanted?
Perusing their commits for 2014 they seem kind of light in the trenches, heavy on the skill players once again.
I see a few SC kids in there, but I don't remember us really going after any of them?
Their class is rated so high, makes me wonder why? All skill, no beef? Although I do like the LB class they appear to be signing. They are still selling that "LB U" stuff I guess.

I am actually going to address this seriously. I just looked at their list, and there are kids that we offered, but none of those names have been mentioned with any/much seriousness in a long long time. I would think if Dashaun Watson would've been all about USC a year ago, we would've reciprocated. IDK, maybe Kitt and Scott, we offered those 2, but so did everyone in the country. There weren't any recruits that they really pulled away from us.
Conversely, we pulled W Green and DJ Smith from them. The change in Crystal Ball projections showed that. Also, Crosby was a clemson lean up until the showcase the summer before last. I think for the most part though, their guys wanted to be there and our guys wanted to be here.

You're right, it wasn't the instate guys, it was the out of state guys that we would've wanted. (like Watson, Scott, Kitt.)

They just rank by the players committed, not by the intelligence in addressing the needs of the team.

LBU is Penn State, and it has been for as many years as I can remember. Miami also has had MANY LB's in the NFL.

They are flirting with scott, probably just to negative recruit us and hope he goes somewhere else.

Oh yeah, I'm well aware of PSU and ThugU being solid LB programs, but Clemson sells themselves as tLBU. I know it for a fact because I've had two players that signed with us tell me that's how Clemson came at them.
Clemson just flat-out recruits negatively to be honest. Some of their stuff is funny.
1 - Spurrier is probably going to retire next year. (they've been selling that one since '09)
2 - South Carolina is never going to amount to anything. (Brad Scott and Chris Rumpf were the two worse culprits with that one)
3 - South Carolina has the Confederate Flag flying just down the street from their campus and they do nothing about it ... USC has a racist history. (Brad Scott sold that one more than anyone and would even take scraps cut out of The State from the 60s about Maurice Bessinger)
4 - Clemson has always dominated South Carolina.
5 - If you go to South Carolina you are far more likely to end-up having run-ins with the police down there. Columbia is a hot bed for gangs and crime.
6 - South Carolina does not run an offense that will help you get into the NFL.
7 - South Carolina has too much coaching turnover - they're coaches leave for better jobs. No stability at your position.
8 - GA Mangus urinated on a sidewalk in Greenville ... how's that for classlessness?
9 - Have you seen this picture of Coach Spurrier shirtless?
10 - If you are hurt, Spurrier will still force you to play until you are permanently injured.
11 - Spurrier will yank your scholarship if you take too long to develop.
12 - They run that program down there like a business, not like a family like we do up here at Clemson.
13 - When you leave South Carolina they will forget about you. Here at Clemson you will always be part of our family.
14 - Our stadium is much larger than theirs and we have far better fan support.
15 - You'll participate in more big-time TV games, here at Clemson, than you will at South Carolina, and that will help garner you more exposure to the scouts.
16 - Clemson is known for its academics as well as its athletics. South Carolina is not a good academic institution, and remember, you will not play football forever.
17 - South Carolina is the third most penalized program in the southeast ... by the NCAA. (Yes, I hear they actually found some bogus stats somewhere to support that in their own skewed way.)
18 - We've already won one National Championship here at Clemson (see the trophy), and if you sign we'll win another one. You are the missing piece to the puzzle.
19 - We guarantee you will play as a true freshman if you want to. (Caveat, their definition of "want to.")
20 - We'll provide you with the finest Lazyboy Recliners money can buy, free of charge, for your off campus apartment beginning your sophomore year.
I've heard about them all and then some ... they know no limits to their bullcrap.

A lot of these were pretty funny.
3 - South Carolina has the Confederate Flag flying just down the street from their campus and they do nothing about it ... USC has a racist history. (Brad Scott sold that one more than anyone and would even take scraps cut out of The State from the 60s about Maurice Bessinger)
Has everyone forgot about Ben Tillman, or was he just not big enough of a historical figure that people remember that he was a founding member for clemson, and a Grand Dragon in the KKK? Also, USC had it's first black student in 1873, while clemson didn't allow a black student in until 1963...almost 100 years later.
Harvey Gantt was the first African American student to enroll at Clemson, entering the University in January 1963.
On October 7, 1873, Henry E. Hayne, the Secretary of State of South Carolina, became the first black student when he registered for the fall session in the medical college of the University

... Let's not get crazy here. We didn't allow black students from 1877 until 1963 ourselves. Lot of glass houses in the South to be hurling stones...

I'm assuming your ignoring Allen and Benedict which were founded in 1870 then... we'd be last then, right?

nope, still clemmson. Benedict and Allen were founded to allow African Americans access to higher ed. USC was the first state university founded before the Civil War that let African Americans in. 1st.

When did he commit?

Hasn't yet. I believe he committed after a visit or something and his mom made him reconsider. But I think we still land him.

Then it's probably too early to say you've landed him. Especially when we feel like we're in really good shape with him as well.

What makes me confident is our 2 deep. We are THIN at CB right now if we have early departures even more so. Green and Smith look at our depth chart and see playing time year 1.

He'd still be committed to USC if it wasn't for his HS coach

Trust me, they're looking at our film from last year and saying the same thing

Green favored Clemson from the end of 2012 into the spring. Then he committed to us in the summer, only to decommit in September. His high school coach is pushing him to go to Georgia.I still think he comes to South Carolina.

We have 3 scholarship CBs with zero experience coming back next year. Yall took at least 2 freshmen corners last year- they just sucked. Plus Tramel Terry is moving over to defense to play corner I assume.

Terry's going to play safety.
