Last year I was fortunate enough to watch the Shrine Bowl (SC vs NC All Star HS Game.) I came away with one single perception, Pharoh Cooper was the best player on the field for either team.
This year I'll try to watch the game as well. From what I've read so far Donnell Stanley and Dexter Wideman are doing well. There's still a whole week of practice, but there are several Gamecocks on the squad.
For NC Darrell Scott is are lone target. (not playing this week though.)
For SC, Donnell Stanley, Shaq Davidson, Kevin Crosby, Tyshun Samuel, Kalen Ritchie, Malik Young, and Joe Blue.

They're saying that Ritchie is practicing at DE out there... hadn't thought of that possibility.

He played DE for most of this past season, and he really liked it. He was very raw when he started at DE and made a lot of sacks/tfl's, but just based on athleticism. Our coaches are open to the possibility of him playing DE here as well.

So, we could end up with no TE in this class in the long run. Crosby and Ritchie to defense in college is a real possibility. I don't know that it would be that bad as we should be good at TE for the foreseeable future.
But however it works out, I love that we go after athletes at these positions. Guys who can play multiple spots is a much more versatile weapon than a superstar peg who only fits one hole.

Agreed, Crosby is a Stud athlete like Kelvin Rainey, he could play 4 different positions well. Ritchie to DE would help immediately with depth there in 2014, especially if Devin Washington doesn't play anymore. That whole concussion thing is troubling, he wasn't cleared to play all season, so when does it get to the point where it is in his best medical interest to not play anymore?

Whom are all the NC prospects committing to this season? We're not getting any kids out of NC?

Honestly, the only 3 kids we paid much attention to out of NC were Bentley Spain, Berrios and Scott. We flirted with Featherton for a while, but it was nothing serious either way. Berrios went to Miami, Spain made a horrible decision and went to unc. That leaves us with Scott, and we're in the best shot to land a commitment.
In 2015, we are going to raid that state like none other though.

Scott is really the only NC kid we've recruited heavily....after him there's perhaps Elijah Hood and Lorenzo Featherston: Hood we haven't recruited for about a year now (he's a UNC commit), and Featherston we have recruited more recently, but looks to be either Clemson or UNC.

Thanks Men.
So it must be a down year in NC for D1 football prospects this year? Or either, since we only had so many ships to give, there were only so many players in NC we could really afford to go after?
Or do y'all think we're beginning to turn our attention more west, to Georgia, ever year?
Looks like Tennessee is only getting one kid out of there, a DB by the name of Moseley. Wait, I see where UNC and NC State are signing a combined twenty-something out of NC so they must both be doing a good job of keeping the instate talent home this year. That's probably twice the instate D1 talent we're producing this year ... except I doubt all of it, in NC, is SEC level talent. Looks like Clemson is going to take three or four outta NC as well.
You know, some to think of it, Spurrier never really recruited NC at Florida either. First time I've ever thought of that but seems like he would have given all of his connections from his Duke days.

I think it's just the talent this year. Next year we are already recruiting Fields, Tuttle, Bowman, Hines, Love, Veal and Hughes out of NC for right now. Compare that to the two or three we tried for this year.

I think NC produced their share of D1 talent, it's just that we had guys in other states committed, we missed on 2 that we wanted, and we're going to get the one we wanted the most.
We've recruited NC pretty well over the years, Trav, Cliff, Culliver, Pharoh etc.... This year there weren't a lot of guys we went after hard.
Next year we're going after plenty of highly ranked NC guys:
Player and 247 State Ranking
Mark Field #2 (We Lead)
Mason Veal #5 (USC Legacy, we're in the lead group.)
Michael Bowman #6 (Havelock pipeline)
Nyheim Hines #7 (We're in his lead group)
Bryce Love #8 (USC Legacy, I think we're interested, we offered, but not All In, IDK though. We're in his lead group)
Mike Hughes #9 (In his lead group)
and that's just the Top 10 in NC 2015.
There's another guy I've got to see several times this year b/c he plays on the team with my cousin. Rocky Reid from Concord is an absolute BEAST at RB and ranked #21 in NC. I hope the coaches look at him. He had over 2000 yards rushing this season on a 15-1 Concord team that lost the State Championship to Havelock (who had the best defense in the state by far.) Rocky rushed 41 times for 240 yards against Havelock. He has home run speed and the D1 RB size already, he's already built. He's my sleeper pick for the NC 2015. Some school is going to be very lucky, if he qualifies.

Check this out. Photo of shrine bowl practice. Guess who's on the far right hanging with a bunch of our commits?

Yep, it's Wideman, throwin' up the Spur. This might be reflective of why so many "experts" don't care that he's actually committed to FSU and picking him to flip to USC.

I just hope he has the damn grades. Not holding my breath though.
Also, what are your thoughts on taking more than 15-16 players. If rooster says we are losing a fair few, we should be able to open those scholarships up for recruits no?

We are already at 15 commits. We were already going to have to process some players.
4 Sr's
Clowney, Hampton, Quarles (3 Early NFLer's)
So we were at the limit to forgo attrition at 7 commits.
Christian, St Germain and Vonasheck left, that allowed for 10 total spots
3 scholarships were given to walkons and probably won't be renewed, so that 13 (Rhodes, Hull and 1 other I can't remember now.)
So we will most likely process 4-5 more, the guys probably already have a good idea who they are.
I'm fine with taking whatever we need and losing our excess. We have a lot of depth at some positions and several guys who have been here 2+ seasons who haven't even cracked the 2 Deep. It's part of the process and it happens everywhere, bama more than others.
