In the very first BCS title game, Florida State was considered a heavy favorite despite Tennessee being ranked #1 and undefeated. Vegas put Tennessee as 5.5 pt underdogs. FSU was not just a media darling but Tennessee though undefeated wasn't given a chance. FSU was destined to win and Tennessee couldn't hope to beat them. The SEC wasn't considered the premier conference it is today.
That game changed things. We were reluctantly given respect and it took more than a few BCS titles by SEC schools for the media to stop seeing other conferences as superior.
Auburn, let's end the BCS era the way it all began: Go kick FSU's arse!

History is a reliable reference for human behavior, politics and major world events. It is not as reliable for sports. It's great to know FSU has such an awesome bowl record but that winning record is not going to help them win the National Championship in January. I was a history major, can't you tell??!

I was a Tennessee fan during the 1998 season (grew up that way since my family went to Tennessee). Now that I'm an AU fan, I'd like nothing more to end the BCS the same way as it started back then - SEC victory
