I'm of the opinion that a younger gung-ho recruiter might be good in the QB coach role- but if it doesnt happen we will be ok.

Changing the OC wont change our offense or playcalling- and Koenning is not a bad recruiter as is. Mullen is the OC and playcaller- so the offense is all his. Hell, there's word that Mullen didnt even let Koenning gameplan the last 4 weeks- did everything himself.

If Mullen is really doing the majority of the offensive game planning I really don't care one way or the other about Les.

It does seem that he has been one of our more consistent recruiters.

This is the one thing holding Mullen's offense back. How he wasn't fired last year is beyond me.

It would be nice to actually have an OC that does the job of an OC instead of our HBC doing it, regardless of my previous statements. I just figure at this point its not going to happen, so I'm just tired of getting mad about it.

I thought the OC would just be a figure head and Mullen would call the plays.

True, but I would like to see him at least help game plan. I have read in different places that Mullen did it on his own the last 2-4 weeks.

What does Freeze do? Is he calling the plays each down or is it more of an approve, don't approve call for him?

It is all about options. The staff has got to get everyone executing on a play to make it an option for the guy that is calling the plays. A play could be a good play, but if it looks like crap in practice, it is probably going to look like crap in the game.

This isn't just about calling the plays. This also includes having the right guys in the right place to make the play. Think Dak in the Wildcat on 4th and 1 vs Russell in the Wildcat on 4th and 1. One of those is a good call. One of those isn't. Expand that thought to every alignment, down and distance, situation, etc.

This makes sense because it was Mullen's job that was on the line. Les goes with Mullen and I don't see Les getting fired unless they are all going out together.

ETA: I think Les should be let go either way. But I would like to see a special teams coach and a QB coach hired like Coondick says.

So fire Les, hire two young up and coming coaches.

I'll say this also, I really hope someone is paying for Dak to go see that awesome QB guru that all the top QB's are getting to go see.

The OC job on a daily basis and not just in the game. Mullen might be calling the plays, but the OC is still the guy that makes sure that those plays are game-ready.

I always talk shite about Les, but really I probably shouldn't. He's a puppet. Mullen taught the offense to him. If he leaves, he'll have to teach it to someone else. I think the bottom line is that Mullen's offense sucks arse if you don't have ballers in the game. Next year I think we'll have the personnel to make it work and people won't give a shite about Les anymore.

The problem that most people have with the offense is that you need a little more creativity when your personnel is not as good as the other team. We see the same thing over and over again. We are going to run what we run and dare them to stop it. Guess what? They can, and we have a dismal record against really good teams as a result.

That may be on Mullen, but a good OC that isn't a yes man will be tossing out all kind of what ifs and convincing Mullen that things can be done a little bit better in certain situations.

Agree 100%. Don't know who's fault it is, but that's the main reason people got on the fire mullen train.

It is the fact that at the start of the season we were so undisciplined on the o side of the ball. We only put up 3 points on ok state. Playing calling was part of it, but the real problem was execution. Missed assignments and wrong routes fall directly on the OC. I had kind of gotten over my les rage over the off season, but after that game all my rage came back full force. The team did shape up over the season, but I always wonder what we would be like with a great OC. #FireLes
