Arky is like WV. Both are crab bucket states. Recruits, coaches, whatever.
Only 2 really good recruits have ever come out of WV. Curt Warner and Randy Moss.
Coaches is a different story. John McKay, Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher, and Rich Rodriguez are all from WV. WVU has to be kicking themselves for hiring Bill Stewart over Jimbo Fisher in 2008

Arkansas? Hell Bama is praying Saban goes to Texas so they can hire him.

I know a lot of people close to Gus, and to a man they say that he's ambitious as hell and that he has the Petrino characteristic of being a great coach but also not being long for a specific job. Our program craves stability right now, seeing as how we're on our 4th coach in 7 years, and hiring Gus comes with the inherent risk of being back at the drawing board in 3 years when a shiny new job comes calling.

Gus is a restless guy and can't sit still for long. He will leave Auburn in excellent shape but make no mistake..... he will leave Auburn.

Don't flatter your team nor yourself. You've had a nice year, now sustain it for more than a year or two.

If we want him in the future, we'll have him.
Arkasnsas may be coming in the backdoor on the SEC yet!

I understand that hindsight 20/20. But, considering the fact that this guy was in Arkansas's backyard, this decision is warranted.
Several asked the same thing about Arkansas firing Nutt when he first made a splash at Ole Miss. How did that work out for the gloating Rebels in the long run?
We won't really be able to give a definitive answer until 3-4 years or longer when both coaches have their own players but I’m guessing Gus the Pius and Auburn’s honeymoon will be over by that time while Bielema will have the Hogs in consistent, championship contention with a program built on a solid foundation. Not on shifting sands like Gus’ Mickey Mouse program.
Arkansas could have had Gus and could have him now if we wanted but there are too many of us who don’t like him, don’t like his stand-offish mannerisms, his holier-than-now façade, his willingness to break the recruiting rules (or look away while others do his bidding), his encouraging players to fake injury, or his cult-like followers.
As an Arkansas grad and a Razorback Foundation contributor, in no way do I want someone like Gus the Pius heading up the football program. Our program has more intigerity than that to have someone like him.
Hog long-term futures have never been higher!

There is a jealousy/division within the state of Arkansas between NWA and the rest of the state. That division manifests itself in several ways including the mindset of Arkansas fans with respect to Gus. Gus was a hero in NWA High School football. He got the Arky OC position partly because of this, but mostly because he had several highly ranked kids graduating the same year. Gus was successful, but Houston Nutt wouldn't give him complete control of the offense. Not being on the same page with each other likely cost Arkansas an SEC championship. Gus was a class act the entire time and has never spoken an ill word about it. His supporters though caused tons of drama and chaos for the program and Houston Nutt.
I live in NWA and I can't stand Gus or Nutt. Neither are as they appear in public.

Mickey Mouse offense has won the west twice, has one sec championship and a natty. Something arkansas can only dream of. Enjoy Bert.
