I'm not a basketball guy.. but I can't help but think this years team might end up better.

Clarkson is better than Pressey.

And I'd take a freshman Clark over Pressey.

Think Phil really screwed up this team over the last couple years.. we lived or died by this guy, and he was erratic and very incomplete.

Yeah we'll miss Oriahki, but think we'll be fine. And JW3 is so very good. Hopefully he ends up growing his role this year.

Also...

Win-win for you tonight Mizzouex? Haha.

No. We'll be 4th-7th in the SEC. If we make the tournament, we'll probably have hit our ceiling. Ross is as selfish as Pressey with far less talent. They don't know how to pick a shot. Our best post player is Rosburg. It could be a painful year to watch.

Ross hasn't really played a lot tonight, Haith seems to be going with a different lineup.

The SEC is better this year.. so not totally relevant.

But Ross isn't the QB. He's not the pulse of the team.

That could change..

I guess I don't know for sure, I don't grasp basketball as well as other sports. Was just getting a feel for what others thought.

I guess right now I think really highly of Clarkson, Clark, and JW3.. and think we can find a few others to be positive players.

I'll say I feel a lot better after our second half tonight. N'western is a small team and not super athletic, so we match up well with them. But we look better than most SEC teams at this point in the season. We'll be ok. I'll still probably be a nervous nelly about it for a while though.

We just don't have the assists (yet) that we need. If this holds up, it will be nip/tuck to make the ncaa tourney.

P.S. Thanks goodness for J3.

Hard to tell at this point, but maybe. I am not expecting much. Hopefully, I will be surprised.

I thought last years team didn't improve during the season, maybe even played worse. Hopefully this years team will improve as the season progresses. The freshman should progress. Clarkson after sitting out a year may improve as the season progresses. Brown is noticeably better. Will Criswell and Post improve? Rosberg is improving but has a limited upside.

I don't think a true verdict can be made yet because I do think this team has room to improve. The 12/1/12 team was better than the 12/1/13 team though IMO. This team is just allowing horrid teams to stick around and make games of it.

Pressey was a more creative PG than anyone on this team, but you're right, he oftentimes was out of control. Clarkson is not as strong as a PG but is more productive scoring. I think Clark will be a better "team" point guard than Pressey, but he's just a freshman. Ross and Brown are Ross and Brown. No substantial improvement or fall off. The part that I think potentially makes this team worse than last years is the loss of Bowers and Oriakhi. Yes, I love J3 but he's a freshman. Rosburg had his best game of the year, but he's no Oriakhi. Post is a bust right now.

Pressey < Clarkson
Brown = Brown
Bell > Ross
Bowers > J3
Oriakhi > Rosburg

Ross < Clark
Criswell = Criswell
Rosburg > Post

It seems to me there has also been a concerted effort to get the ball to the rim. I suppose with the new rule, it will either make it easier to score or get the opponent in foul trouble. It's almost like Haith has told these guys, I know you can shoot, in these cupcake games I don't want you to shoot. I want you working on getting to the rim, even if it's ugly to start with.

I'm glad to see Rosburg starting to play above the rim. Less likely for shot blocks when we play a good team down low. Rossy is also a good free throw shooter too.

A few things I'd like to see out of Clarkson is getting his ball control down alittle better in traffic. He does ok, but he has room to improve. Also having more court presence. Looking for an open shooter when he's driving. He has a tendency to drive into traffic.

J3 is going to be special. The guy has a vertical I just can't believe. Killer rebound. His game seems to improve everytime out. Really needs to work on driving the paint. It's really the only thing missing in his game now.

Brown is just Brown. He's hot and cold. But his inside game just keeps getting better.

Ross, what can you say. He's kind of like a larger version of Brown. He doesn't do one thing great, but does many things fairly well when he's on.

Criswell is my favorite player out of this group. He's a scrapper. It's a different team when he's down low. He just needs to work the inside more. He's not a perimeter shooter. It gets him in trouble with the staff.

The rest of these freshman, I haven't seen enough to really make a comment on. Shane and Wes seem like they are searching for their role with the team.

I do see this team coming together through the season. They can either play the fast break game or slug it out below the basket. They are built for both really.

I think this years Brown is better than last years Brown. I think Criswell could prove to be an important cock for this team. Hope he gets his house in order.

I can't argue any of those points jafo.

Regarding your thoughts on Clarkson, the fact that he has like 20 assists to 15 turnovers shows he needs to do a bit better job protecting the ball and/or not try to dribble through traffic so much.

Clark is just playing nearly mistake free basketball. Weakest part of his game is FT's.

As a team, we're pretty poor from the FT line. We also need to take better care of the ball overall. I think as a team we have more TO's than we do assists.

I wish Clark would take over Pressey's role as the QB, the pace setter.

Clarkson is really good, but he's not a QB.

Clark is just so rational in everything he does, he's so smooth and collected, he has incredible intelligence and instincts.

Clarkson is a little more flash n dash. I'll take Clark's characteristics over Clarkson's at the point guard position.

Again agree with ya. IMO our best lineup is probably

Clark
Clarkson
Brown
JW3
Criswell/Rosburg

Clark is more of a pure PG than Clarkson. Clarkson is more of a scorer than Ross. Let Ross come off the bench. His .300 FG% is killing us.
