Did Auburn not have big breakdowns on defense in 2009, 2011 and 2012? That's typically how big plays are made, right? Alabama has made big plays against Auburn due to blown assignments and such, too...

Exactly. If our defense didn't ever breakdown and allow big plays, we'd be undefeated every year

The difference is that Alabama didn't need those to win or keep the game close. Auburn depended on huge plays to compete.
