Line it up and get 6 inches for the first

Please tell me how coaching lost this game.

Way off darkhorse, we did so much better than I thought we'd do. Play calling was typical

What??? We had the ball on the 2 with a 3rd down... 6 inches to get a first. We had 2 downs to get 6 inches and its 1st on the 1!

6" isn't a coaching decision issue - that is execution.

So a passing play called isnt a coaching decison?

You are looking for any little thing to bitch about concerning this coaching staff. Give it a rest. Even the play calling wasn't that bad. We had to run the plays that fit the qb's style of play. That loss was due to poor execution when we needed it most.

I agree with dickhorse. Empty backfield and pass with inches to gain...

Actually the play calling was atrocious as always. Perkins gets too many snaps also.

Defense was great! We will be a top ranked defense next year.
But again, we have to line up and move 6 inches. You think I am complaining, but read MULLEN's own words about using Russell in the redzone.
6" is not a passing down in the redzone vs the #1 team in the US.
The score should have been 14-20.. Now tell me how that would change the decisions made at the end of the game when you have no QB?
We are at least tied and players are on fire.

quote:
Tyler has done a decent job running the ball at times this year. He’s a very different style runner but a capable runner in doing things. So part of it is probably is our fault. Of when we get down in the red zone stick with it. Tyler can run it, too. He’s fast in the open field, but the great thing with Tyler, he does have that toughness. He’s not a guy who is going to shy away from contact. He is a tough, tough kid. So for us I think we’ve got to do a better job of utilizing him in that role and not kind of maybe protect or not put him in that situation. Because it’s stuff that he can still do.”

I have not been sold on Mullen since his first year. Gametime coaching decisions in his era are absurd. The guy is the 25th highest paid coach in the U.S. He's simply not worth the money. I think that MSU would be well served to get somebody who has southern roots.....Ole Miss found a gem in Hugh Freeze. To me Mullen is just another loud-mouthed, yankee snake-oil salesman.....and before you people start ranting about how many wins Mullen has, please show me one quality win against a talented opponent.....it has not happened.

Very true, no signature wins for Mullen.
I mean shite, Coach O has been interim HC for what a couple games at USC? He already has a huge signature win.

I would challenge anyone here to find a time in Mullen's five years, where he has used the under center quarterback sneak.
Just dumbfounds me as to why we refuse this play so blatantly...
