Very true, the idea of separation of church and state is so the government can't interfere with someones right to practice religion and be vocal about it. Unfortunately, that has been perverted into quite the reverse.

Not perverted. It's also so religion can't get involved in govt so the rest of us don't have to live by another's reigious dogma - like they have to Iran.
