the curious firing of head athletic trainer Karl Kapchinski

So he has been in this position going on 32 years and Hyman fires him at 5pm the Friday night before a game in the middle of the season?
That's a really shitty way to treat a longtime employee and looks very strange timing wise.
Treating people like shite on the way out the door seems to have become a theme now in Aggieland.
Don't know who is to blame here but the way people are getting let go as of late is shameful.

I don't know why you'd call this shameful unless you know more details than what you are posting. It seems like anything that happens is because of evil Hyman (and before him BB). People get fired all the time. Hyman has been in his position for over a year now and people have had time to be evaluated. It doesn't even sound like Kapchinski is even bitter, just melancholy. And he was responsible for all sports, not just football so there is no "right time" really.
Sports medicine/nutrition has come a loooong way over the last 31 years. Honestly, I'm surprised we still have the same guy from the early 80s running things. That's not to say he wasn't good....I have no idea. But not many people change with the times like that.

Unless he did something really bad that could get the school in trouble, firing a guy who has been with the school for 30+ years without telling him what the reason is on a Friday night in the middle of the most important part of his year is a dick move.
Sorry but there is no way around that. That isn't the way you should treat a longtime employee.
and I never said it was big bad Hyman's fault but he was the one to do the firing.
If he wasn't up to snuff he should have been gone in the summer. Hyman had enough time to evaluate him last year so to can him mid season is strange at best.

I would like to know why he was fired. What if he was Brent's source that caused the Jorts temper tantrum?

do you even know this? It doesn't sound that way. I have been told a hint of why btw and if correct he most definitely knows the reason for it, but I'd rather not speculate until I know for sure.

I'll try and find out this weekend.
I have a few people I can hit up for info but I don't want to bug them during the week for it.
I was told that was the case by a friend/coworker of his this morning via Facebook. Of course I admit that guy is biased.
I've just seen enough go on in the last few years school wide to know I wouldn't be shocked at it going down the way it was described to me.
Current leadership is pretty horrible when it comes to people relations IMO and its going to eventually come back and bite a lot of people in the arse.

what I was told is he did something to undermine a policy he disagreed with. I'll leave it at that unless I get details I feel is more than rumor.

Who else has Hyman fired in this manner? Am I completely forgetting someone?

That would obviously make more sense if he did something like that.

Again, I am not saying Hyman is specifically the guy treating people poorly. I think its an issue that goes higher than him and simply trickles down.

Has absolutely nothing to do with Hyman, but the Sherman firing was definitely shameful
Still dumbfounded at how our administration can royally frick something up that badly

I hope it was Hyman's stupid drug/class policy.

Speaking of hyman, how has he done as an ad so far? I don't know enough about the position he holds or the moves he's made to get an idea on how he has been doing. I just hope he knows his basketball.
Also, what's his drug/class policy? Why is it stupid?

Class checkers for every class. Mandatory two game suspensions for missing class and/or failed drug tests. It used to be the coach's decision.

I can understand the drug rule, but the class rule? As long as you can pass nobody should give a frick about how many classes you go to. a-hole professors included.

Brent Z added an article on this
5-year bans are not handed out without cause. Such a clause is definitely going to be handled by HR and Legal

although his involvement with Kevin Sumlin’s football program had become minimal this fall for an unknown reason

An A&M athletic department official declined a response on the specifics of the insider’s claims, citing A&M’s “longstanding practice to decline comment regarding personnel matters.” The insider said Kapchinski’s termination even included a “five-year ban” from employment in any capacity by A&M.

5-year ban?
That sounds serious. It's almost as if he was pushing to remove the Corps Block.

True, and back to the drug rule, still wish it was coach's decision.

well if he got a 5 year ban then I could for sure see it being much more than the "nothing" I was initially told about.
to me I guess
