it being his only move is because he has been such a spineless cry baby in the past. if he was tougher than he would have a better position against the dems but he is just a puppet for them and not even close to a political match for obama and reid. the top republicans are all garbage and basically puppets for obama. The republican plan of attack is pathetic. The ideas are closer to being right than the democrats but they have no way of articulating why the idea works.

You can't fight everything. He's got a Dem controlled Senate and a Dem in the WH. Can't just make a principled stand every time something is up for negotiation. The GOP would never get anything they wanted.

It was his only move because the charge happened too early with no plan in place to deal with the fallout. This is the wise move. You have to cut your losses at some point. Back up, regroup, and then engage in a fight you can actually get some wins in.

I tend to agree on the budget side of things. That's why this stupid shutdown has me annoyed. Could have gotten something in a fight over the debt ceiling and instead had to use the debt ceiling as a bargaining chip to end the shutdown.

They have bad spokesmen. It's hard to take the Tea Party's hardline message seriously. Then you have the crazies get on the Fox News and push a hardline agenda that comes across as callous toward those in need and impractically simple in the talking points being parroted. They care more about getting the Tea Party in "ra ra!!!" mode than putting forth a message the average person can get behind.

It turns me off, and I'm in the demographic the GOP could actually pick up.
