Garrett Uekman - RIP

So the class that was a result of Petrino having things rolling, Sugar Bowls, and shite was this, this shite right here.

The Star of the class was Calvin Barnett who had to go to JUCO and wasn't gone after the second time around, now tearing it up at Oklahoma St.

Chris Smith and Hocker is the only one out of the class every other SEC team would like to have. Hocker was 4th choice in a class we signed two fricking kickers after the prized kicker switched to UT, he wasn't offered until around NSD or he'd be in fricking Jonesboro right now.

Byron Jones has been disappointing like DD Jones and we had to give Alan Turner a spot to get him.

Horton was widely recruited as a DB prospect, if you've see his hands you know why, second coming of Joe Adams he is not. Herndon is the best WR of the class to remain and he was offered on NSD at noon after not having visited any colleges.

This is why we find ourselves in the position of talent on the field, the classes that followed have not been much if any better, the real talent of the class is not around to be juniors/seniors, if they made it to campus to start with, wasn't that the biggest bitch about Nutt's recruiting? This recruiting is a big reason why the team gets worse as the game goes on, no depth.

But hey, Petrino is a master talent evaluater, rankings don't matter in his system, he will have them coached up to be amoung the SEC's best by the time they are juniors and seniors.

Well, they are now juniors and seniors...

When we fired Holtz and followed up by not hiring Jimmy Johnson. Once again pissing in the face of home grown talent.

ETA- I know Johnson wasn't born here. But he played for us and Frank supposedly promised him the job if he got HC experience.

Dude just drop it. You were just as fired up about Bielema as the rest of us and it was posted on the rant for everyone to see. Stop acting like you wanted Malzahn all along and weren't excited about Bielema.

WTF does this have to do with that?

Barry Switzer is another. Wouldn't hire him because of his past, then we hire Danny Ford? Pissed Switzer off big time. We would have ended up on probation, but what the hell.

What happened back in the 80s has nothing to do with the recruiting that is leading to the on field results of the team this year.

I remember being pissed off at the 07 class after so much "success" on the field, but looking at the 10 and 11 classes made me appreciate it for just how good it was...

It may still be too early to tell from the 12 class, but hoping for better results.

By my count 13 of those are no longer playing here. I understand G88 with what happened and hate to put him in.

12 not counting G88

Not good.

We had these same convos when Petrino got here.

Javontee Herndon- Mediocre WR. Can catch a punt though
Denton Simek- Not a dang clue
Calvin Barnett- non qualifier
Alan Turner- Too slow for safety in SEC
Byran Jones- Solid contributor for 4 yrs. 3/4 yrs new DC
Jarrett Lake- Production senior year because of no talent at LB. Mainly special teams his career.
Zach Hocker- May be best kicker to come through UofA
Maudrecus Humphrey- Arrested. Kicked off
Jatashun Beachum- Left program. Many don't know this, but Jatashun was caught stealing property from the Lambda Chi house.
Julian Horton- Stone hands. No significant contribution
Daunte Carr- Gone
LaCraig Brown- Lasted two weeks of first fall camp
Jacoby Walker- Transfered
Luke Charpentier- Career back up
Marquel Wade- Arrested kicked off team
Eric Bennett- Worst excuse for a safety I've ever seen. Avoids contact at all costs. A quitter.
Courtney Gaston- Gone
Darrell Smith- Gone?
Braylon Mitchell- Slow LB that's playing now because of no options behind him.
Eduardo Camara- Transfered
Brad Hefley- Gone
Jeremiah Jackson- back injury forced him out of game. Finishing school at UofA and is actually a great person.
Chris Smith- great rush defensive end.
Cam Feldt- injuries forced him to not play.

Pffft. We would be 6-1 with Malzahn. It's not like at Auburn he has all the players he recruited for the system that he runs and several top 10 classes in a row.

We all know we have the personnel for a great defense and offense. Dammit, dammit all to hell.

Oh, lets not forget the schedule. Auburn has clearly played a tougher schedule than Arkansas.

Yep.

I disagree with the OP on Byran Jones though. I think he has had a good career here considering the crap show of defensive coaches he had here.

Yes.

I remember Nutt talking about how we wouldn't see the results of the 10 win season until a year later, not in that recruiting class. He was explaining the class' ranking and this was long before he ever thought of being replaced.

So with that in mind the 2011 recruiting class that would have had the full impact of the Sugar Bowl Season:

Brey Cook
Marquel Wade
Quinta Funderburk
Andrew Peterson
Robert Atiga
Robert Thomas
Jason Peacock
Tyler Gilbert
Chris Stringer
Alan D’Appollonio
Drew Gorton
Justin Oates
Brad Taylor
Mitch Smothers
Tevin Mitchel
Lonnie Gosha
Keante Minor
Austin Beck
Kelvin Fisher Jr.
Grady Ollison
Brandon Allen
DeMarcus Hodge
Davyon McKinney
Kody Walker
Marcus Danenhauer
Darrell Kelly-Thomas
Horace Arkadie
Alonzo Highsmith
Brock Haman
Brett Weir
Kiero Small
Jashaud Sims
Rohan Gaines
Trey Flowers (Thanks Bama)
Kane Whitehurst

So the prized cow of the class was Gosha, gone before the first game.

Cook and Smothers were also the "huge gets", both replaced by true freshman this year, on the O-line...

So the best players in the class have turned out to be lightly recruited Kiero Small and a guy who Bama ran out of scholarships for in Flowers.

The guys in these classes are who we should have to rely on as Seniors, Juniors, or RS-Sophs depending on positions they played on both sides of the ball...

Bama never recruited Flowers, he was just a major gem. I think he had 2 BCS offers.

He's gonna get drafted in April, so there's that.
