"Birmingham is a train wreck"

Which is a shame really. The city is in a really pretty setting in a pretty area and has so much potential. Birmingham had 7 Fortune 500 headquarters as recently as 2000 which was more than a lot of much larger metro areas. Unfortunately, poor leadership from the mayor's office, city council, and county commission and the area's unwillingness to support any kind of public/private projects like MAPS holds the area back live and let live fun loving attitude. South LA, coastal stl AL, and the FL panhandle have that in common.

There is also something about the B'ham area and much of Alabama away from the coast/Mobile area that I couldn't put my finger on until it was described by someone on TD. There really is an uptight attitude in B'ham. It isn't unfriendly or rude, it just seems like people are uptight. I like Mobile because although it isn't nearly as nice or pretty as Bham it has a much more laid attitude much like the fun loving attitude you see in South LA, coastal MS, coastal AL, and the FL panhandle

Edit: Cell phone screwed up my post

When I lived in Alabama, it was Mobile and Eastern Shore. Mardi Gras and being close to redneck riviera helps.
