Leach would fit in with the UT royalty like a big fat square peg in a circle. His personality would go over like a lead balloon & don't kid yourself, image does matter with schools like UT. Forget what kind of success he's had, and it's been average to ok at best, Mr. Pirate Head will never fit in with the money gang.

Texas is only five times bigger than Alabama. UT is the preferred destination for most Texas recruits. That is the main reason why it is such a good job. Even Alabama loses in-state recruiting battles to Auburn on occassion.
If Texas was really that great a job they'd have won a lot more over the years.

Weren't there a lot of legit points about Saban being at Bama.
Wouldn't fit in their good old boy network.
Wouldn't want to be in Bear's shadow.
Wouldn't want to deal with insane Bama fans.
Seems kind of laughable now doesn't it? But it was legit at the time

Alabama would match it.
And Texas could raise it... Bama would lose the bidding war with Texas if it came to that....

Considering Saban left the Dolphins to come to Bama for LESS money, I don't think money will sway him.

Pretty sure A&M is outrecruiting them now
Do you think TAMU would out recruit Texas if Saban was their coach? Probably not. TAMU is not the cool school in Texas and likely will never be.

Well Saban has been pulling in #1 classes and winning championships every year at Alabama. He literally can't do any better.

Money alone, I agree... but he would also have the pick of the litter in Texas. Sure he has more schools to compete with, but there are also far more recruits and more top recruits at that.

Why does he need better recruits? He already is getting #1 classes every year

Recruiting isn't what it used to be. The top programs can pull players from anywhere in the country.

Winning at Texas is a lot easier than winning at Alabama until you reach the postseason. I believe that is when the "iron sharpens iron" factor kicks in for the SEC. Saban could negate that with a tough non-conference schedule.
I would rather live in Austin than Tuscaloosa. I don't know about Saban though. I still think Saban goes to USC and Sumlin goes to Texas. That is my official prediction.

You really think Saban is leaving? Oh lawd.

There is no way Saban ever coaches anywhere but Alabama, but the Sumlin thing is even more ridiculous. The guys at Texas are way too proud to hire A&M's coach.

Who knows about Saban? LSU seemed like a plum job to me.

If he had become LSU's coach after having already been a HC in the NFL, he would've never left.
That's my view

You underestimate how mad they are at TAMU for leaving for the SEC. This might be the ultimate act of revenge for them. I would think the people in charge are more rational than that though.

I read an article about how Saban dislikes how he is a big celebrity in Alabama. He might want to move to LA for that reason alone.
Posted on 10/2/13 at 4:52 pm to GumpMaster&Commander
Move to LA to STOP being a celebrity?

I suspect people in LA don't flip out over a college football coach like they do in Bama. I could be wrong though. It might be a little different now that they do not have a pro team.

Not saying he is or even will but are you really naive too think Saban would never leave Alabama because it's it's "Alabama"?
