But basketball is done by the time it gets to the middle of the schedule. I don't buy spring football as an excuse, except on maybe the day of the spring game. For one, spring football is biggest in the South, where baseball already does well. Weather is a good reason though. And that may be one of the biggest. End of February is nice in TX, LA, FL, and CA, but is still cold in many parts of the country.

There are people who go to the practices to watch too. Overall, it isn't a big impact.

Just including it since it is "the start" of the new season, then you have the end of basketball to go along with the beginning of MLB, lots of competition for a sport that isn't real popular in comparison.

Yeah, several big name universities up north do not have a baseball program, mainly due to weather.
