I hear lots of fans chattering about wearing black at 3:30 in September being a disadvantage due to heat.

How much cooler is wearing Red?

If it is an advantage to wear white on Hot days, why don't we elect to wear white and make the visitor wear the darker and hotter colors?

We'd be absolutely stupid to have a blackout in September at 3:30. Yeah it looks cool, but let's be honest we need every advantage we can get and I don't think wearing black in the hottest part of the day is very wise. ~WG_DAWG

I always wear white to the games for this reason.

So what is your thinking on why our team does not elect to wear white? Why not take every advantage possible?

I don't think McGarity posts here so no one can give you a real answer, other than that we have always worn red at home. It's our tradition. There are a small handful of schools whose tradition is to wear white at home (LSU and georgia tech, for instance), but other than that teams wear dark at home.

So according to you, that makes all but a handful of Athletic Directors "Absolutely Stupid" for not wearing White at Home.

Sigh...I have never said that, ever. Please find where I did.

What I DID say was that it would be stupid to wear black, in september, at 3:30. Do you understand that? Have you noticed when our previous 3 blackouts were?

-November at home
-January bowl game
-september at 7:30

There's a reason we've never done a september 3:30 blackout.

OK, I smell a compromise.

Would you at least agree that it is hotter to wear red than white at 3:30 in September?

Who would disagree with that statement?

An "absolutely stupid" Athletic Director?

Are you stupid? How old are you?

Nobody would disagree that wearing white is the "coolest" color you can wear early in the season. However, it is our tradition to wear red at home, so we do so. We've been doing it for 100 years. To wear red is normal and nothing out of the ordinary. To wear black in the middle of the afternoon in the heat would be out of the ordinary, and it wouldn't make sense to do so given the likely game time against LSU. What can't you understand about that? Why do you keep talking about athletic directors?

Because, as you pointed out, they make the decision. And, as you pointed out, they don't post here...

I don't believe your tradition argument holds water. If it did, we would never wear black. Therefore the only reason not to wear black is due to your "heat differential" argument between wearing red and wearing black.

Would you agree that Athletic Directors should, within the rules of course, seize every competitive advantage possible to help ensure their teams victory?

Side question: How many times in the past 10 years have we worn black? Hawaii, Auburn and Bama for sure. Any other blatant tradition violations that you can think of?

Ah, I forgot about the 3:30 game against the Gators that we wore black in.

Talk about tradition. Yeah, yeah, it was an October game, but let's not forget that one of Richt's problems with this game being in Florida every year is that it is hotter for us than them... Yet he still chose black jersey's for the day so I'm guessing CMR does not see the tradition argument or the "heat differential" as a deciding factor.

"Absolutely Stupid"?? Strong words my friend... Yours not mine...

My thinking is we would still be wearing them if we didn't get embarrassed in them the last two times we wore them. There in lies the truth my friend.

Why can't you just accept that and move on??

No, because that would mean us wearing white pants and white tops for every game not at night, and I don't want us to do that.

Those are the only 3, and none of those games were during the day in september.

if the only way we can win a football game is by making our opponent wear dark colors in the sun...God help us all.

Light is either absorbed or reflected. Absorbed light is converted into heat.

White reflects light the best, making it cooler than all other colors. Black absorbs light the most, making it the hottest. Red will be somewhere in between.

We wear red at home out of tradition and only deviate on occasion to wear black. Wearing black during the middle of the afternoon should make the players hotter than wearing red or white.

There might be a slight advantage to wearing white during the day, but I don't think it creates enough of an advantage over wearing red to get away from tradition.

The home team is only permitted to wear white tops if the visiting team agrees to it. Generally, for those few teams with such a tradition, the visiting teams agree to it according to custom. I do remember a LSU home game years ago in which they had to wear dark tops at home because no less than Steve Spurrier did not agree to wear dark tops for that game.

I believe that if other teams began to attempt to wear white tops at home in September to gain a heat / comfort advantage, the visiting teams would simply not consent to it.

We wore black pants, not tops, and that wasn't a "blackout". It was also in november, not september.

No, no he didn't. We have never worn black jerseys against UF.

The "truth" is we are 2-1 in games that we have worn black jerseys.

We don't wear black at 3:30 in Sept because of heat.

We do wear red at 3:30 in Sept even though it is hotter than white.

We wear red because it is a tradition.

We wear black even though it is a tradition to wear red but we don't wear white because it is a tradition to wear red.

We only wear black pants against Florida because it goes against tradition to wear black pants any other time.

Are black pants hotter to wear than black jersey's. Are black pants hotter to wear than silver britches? Why would CMR choose pants that are hotter to wear in an environment that he already whines about being hotter for us than them?

The reason we abandoned the uniform changes involving black is because we got thoroughly embarrassed in them the last 2 times we wore them.

If we were 4-0 in Black do you really believe we would have quit wearing it from time to time? Do you really believe that?
