Notables from Media Day:
- Stoops reported that Alvonte Bell and Justin Day will not report to camp. Javess Blue is on campus and going through practice.
- Marcus McWilson who was an academic question mark coming in is listed on roster. An interesting note, JD Harmon and Marcus McWilson is listed as having the same number on the roster fueling speculation that Harmon is moving to WR.
- Pittsburg transfers Chris and Demetrious Davis are both listed on the roster. As is Nebraska transfer Braylon Heard. All three will sit out this season.
- UK is still waiting on Melvin Lewis and Nate Willis. Stoops commented that he's still hopeful Willis can make it (which is obviously a big thing consider our lack of depth at DB).
- Ashley Lowery has been cleared (
) for practice and a disciplinary decision will be made later regarding the wreck and DUI citation.
- Avery Williamson has stepped up as a big leader for the team.
- No plans right now for position changes (kind of conflicts with the roster listing) but said it's not out of the question.
- Practices will be closed to the public with focus on the August 9th Fan Day for the fans.
- UK will base out of a 4-3 (which we all kind of new, just reaffirmed).
- As far as the QB battle, says "the most productive guy will win". Stoops noted that they'd rather have one guy step up and take the job, but didn't shoot down rotating at QB.
- OC Brown commented that Timmons will play at WR but can come out of the backfield as well.
- Brown on the OL noted that guys like Jordan Swindle, Zach West and Kevin Mitchell will have to take reps at multiple spots.
- Both Stoops and Brown noted that TE will be a huge spot for UK with the lack of depth at WR right now.
If anyone else wants to add anything feel free.

That team photo looks like there is more coaches than players.

Stoops Report on Day 1 of Fall Practice: UKAthletics.com Blog
quote:
"They're more explosive," Stoops said. "They're in better shape. It's nice to have more depth. We're a better football team than we left spring, that's for sure. So I'm encouraged. I thought we did some really good things. We look a lot better."
Stoops was also pleased with the organization and efficiency of the practice, even as UK operated differently in some drills than in the spring due to the depth added by the arrival of the 2013 signing class. But even more importantly, Stoops likes the way his players are responding to coaching.

I am so excited to see what a team with a real coaching staff can do. This year will be tough, but I hope they can win a game or two that they aren't supposed to. It's gonna be fun.

I think if they continue to improve by season's end they can take down someone they shouldn't on paper. Maybe MSU or Tennessee? It really all depends on how healthy we can stay with the lack of depth at some key positions.
BTW I read that Mobley should be back from hernia surgery by August 15th as well.
I'm excited for Blue being on campus now too. I think he certainly has potential at WR.

Blue is a very nice looking wideout.
I like Timmons at WR for depth too. He's versatile enough to play the position and we're pretty stacked at RB.
Our DL will be scary good. One of the best in the SEC.

I'm really looking forward to that trio of Avery Williams, Za'Darius Smith, and Bud Dupree on that side of the ball. And while we're obviously thin in the secondary I think being thrown to the wolves last season as very young guys will end up paying off.

Don't forget Rumph and Cobble. They're very good as well. Jason Hatcher, even as a freshman, can put in quality minutes as well. He's an animal.

I agree. There is some freshmen talent as well. I believe that Jaleel Hytchye was mentioned as one of the most impressive freshmen thus far.

True. I'm really interested in seeing how they do with Cobble. His form has always been a bit off but he's obviously a beast.
I keep having to temper my excitement. I'm legitimately excited about this group when it's all said and done because I think the potential is there by season's end to possibly grab a game or two we shouldn't. I just want to see improvement, not necessarily reflected in the W/L column at this juncture. At the very least overall improvement in technique, drive, and etc.

Yeah, the front four have all the potential in the world. Hopefully the new conditioning program has gotten Cobble into better shape.

Absolutely. Can't get any worse, that's for sure. This coaching staff already seems light years ahead of the last in every aspect.

This is what I keep saying. No doubt that it will be a rough year with the schedule. Just to see improvements across the roster will do a ton. Things will pick up a little more starting next year in the W/L column IMO.

After Randy Sanders pulled the shite he pulled on the sideline last season I can't begin to tell you how happy I am he's gonzo. I wanted Joker to succeed because he's a Kentucky guy, but he's just not very good HC material. But that's all water under the bridge.
I'm really interested in seeing how Stoops handles being a defensive coach running the spread. I know Freeze at Ole Miss had to reign in his offensive philosophy a bit in order to keep his defense in a good position to succeed. I'm curious if Stoops will do something similar and how Brown would handle that.

Built like a small LB from the looks of that pic. How tall is he?

Towles looks like he's toned up, put on some muscle weight. He was a little "softer" last season. Whitlow looks like he's put on some weight as well.

I'm sure that almost all Kentucky football fans agree.

Yep. No one wants to see a guy that played at your school and spent so much time on staff fail.

We'll have to wait until the season starts to see how it all works out. I'm excited to watch it though.

I think he's 6' even.

Yeah, from what I've seen almost everyone on the team looks more toned than last season. The conditioning program that Korem is running is impressive.
