in the cam saga they were near the end of the season with a national title in their eye sites. We have not started the season and there have been plenty of these off season investigations that have taken a while to finalize. TAMU may get the NCAA to push things forward so they can have a definitive answer by the Bama game

Keep in mind also that aTm and the Manziels are represented by different attorneys, and their interests may actually be conflicting. After weighing everything they are aware of, it is entirely possible that the aTm attorneys may advise them that it's in their best interests to sit Manziel if the NCAA hasn't ruled yet.
In the big picture, protecting Manziel, his reputation, eligibility, future earnings potential is way down on aTm's priority list after protecting the university, avoiding sanctions, fines, scholarship losses, vacated wins, etc.
