I'm not even sure I would get into Alabama now, if I was applying in 2013 as opposed to 2001. And I ended up getting a BS and MS in Civil Engineering.

It's still fairly easy to get in as an in-state student. Out of state, it's getting pretty tough. Since the 10% rule is in a lot of nearby states, we get the 11-15%ers.

Bama has had so much growth the last 4 years, that they have watered down the acceptance requirements. The scores that they report to the press do not include "special entrance" students. I know of a student that got in with an ACT score of 19 last year.
