This matters when discussing Fran. He only faced two top ten teams in his tenure at bama. Lost to both.
In addition, he had a losing record against ranked opponents. Dubose left him with lots of talent, the effects of the Stallings probation had pretty much run there course and he had favorable schedules at bama.
I still say Shula could have done just as well.

After Fran left and quite possibly one of the reasons Fran left is because Bama was facing a tougher and stiffer probation that was NCAA mandated so I'm sure the REC had everything to do with that
