Alden - Does Anyone Truly Believe He Cares about Winning Championships?

Championships - key word.
You know people have asked him why Mizzou won't open the bank for a superstar coach. You win championships with a superstar coach, plain and simple.
The point I'm trying to make is after Pinkel is gone (retirement - forced or not), Alden will probably hire Colorado State's Safeties Coach to lead Mizzou into a new era...and we'll fail.

LOL! Its funny cuz he said Colorado State! Get real man lowly Colorado State has no sense of the competition level at Mizz - umm, oh, hmm.
Right. Well then. Umm...viva el Rams safties coach!

I don't think money will be the factor. GP's salary is already middle to upper half of the SEC. Alden's ability to pinpoint the right guy is a different question.

Why didn't we open the bank for a new OC? Could have done better...

What's Henson's pay compared to other OC's in the SEC? I don't even know. My guess is it was Alden giving GP enough rope to hang himself if it doesn't work. If it works, great. If it doesn't, he's probably gone with the rest of the staff. My take was it wasn't a matter of pay, but more giving GP no excuses after this season by letting him get his guy for OC.
ETA - But you could be right. That was just my take on it at the time.

This is what I think too. I heard it wasn't the money that kept us from getting Cheney - it was perceived insecurity of Pinkel's job. No one really wants to take a job and wonder if they'll be looking again in a year.
And I think Alden knows what's at stake right now. IF we go coach shopping, we'll be looking for the best we can get.

Ok went and found it. Paying Henson $500,000. I don't know what the OC's are making in 2013, but in 2012, he would have been the 3rd highest paid OC. Bama and Tennessee paid $590,000 and $500,000 respectively. Doesn't mean they'll make the right choices, but don't think money will be an issue.

I don't think money will be an issue either. Too much is riding on the success of the football program, we can't be bargain shopping.
We're in the SEC. Football is the crown jewel of the athletic department, because it makes the most money. Football and men's basketball support all the other sports financially, and people won't pay to come and see losing teams. He has to keep the football program, especially, healthy so they can pay for these facilities improvements.
You don't bargain shop on the most important thing, you look for quality.

also something to think about the SEC Network is coming out soon which means even more money to distribute for athletics / coaching.
Idk why so many people are down on Alden he restored Mizzou's relevance to athletics in both basketball and football, and recently won a national award for his work as our AD. Sure he hired under the radar and brought us Haith who has been nothing but good for the university (with the exception of his Miami baggage). So what Haith was out of left field he has worked out for the most part many didnt believe we would be nearly as competitive on the court and recruiting when former HCMA left the cupboard empty.
I have to believe Alden didnt make a change this past year for two reasons, who is really that much better than who we have at OC now? and to have Pinkel run things HIS way one more year. I believe if Pinkel does not produce W's this year I think the house gets cleaned and we will have a lot of money to throw at a new coach. Not to mention the only SEC team with HC on the hot seat going into the season making our stock look that much more appealing. From what i have heard many boosters are interested in hiring a high profile coach.
Also he has moved us to a stable conference and has gotten the boosters attention for these new renovation projects, so long answer short i think yes he wants to win championships

Sure, Alden was instrumental in making Mizzou somewhat relevant again. Somewhat relevant is not the same as championship relevant.
My question is, other than luck, what do the teams that win multiple championships do that we aren't doing?
Oregon only arrived on the scene within the past decade. They haven't won a championship, but they've been much closer than we have. frick, Boise State has gotten closer than we have.
It can be done. You don't have to be Alabama to create a truly winning atmosphere. And as Oregon and Boise have demonstrated, it can be done pretty quickly...
