What's it like there?

Shithole? Redneck? Money?

I was hired out of Nashville and if I get offered this position I won't have but a few days to decide..without being able to visit.

I'm leaning on you guys for some help.

TIA

Stay out of South Jackson and downtown and it's not THAT bad. North Jackson is relatively nice and some of the surrounding areas are great (see Madison, MS.)

Unless you just really hate Nashville...don't go.

I don't think Jackson sucks but it would have to be a better job for me to leave Nashville for Jackson. A lateral move wouldn't do it for me

Unless the pay is significantly better, I wouldn't leave Nashville.

Well, I'm in Minnesota now finishing up our training program, and there isn't an open territory in Nashville.

I have 2 options:

1- Take a territory wherever they offer me (possibly Jackson)

2- Wait it out up here for Nashville to open up--which could end up being another year or so.

I should mention I get a 30K raise when I accept a territory, as I'm on a trainee salary now.

So there's some incentive there

I could live in Madison and commute?

Wouldn't be too bad of a drive?

My territory would literally be all of Jackson and possibly some surrounding towns.

Madison is about 5-10 minutes down the interstate to the nearest part of Jackson. Nice town, looks good, low crime

ETA: also if you have kids Madison schools are some of the best if not the best in Mississippi

I just started working in Jackson. Live in Madison. No complaints so far, but I grew up in the area.

Oh ok...yeah, that seems like a big difference in pay. You could easily commute from Madison. You just won't have a lot to do in Jackson/Madison.

Do they move you around a lot? That wouldn't be so bad being in Madison for a year...anything over that I am not sure.

I'd be in Jackson for probably a minimum of 2-3 years.

And the SO defintely wants to have stuff to do. She's kinda a city girl.

IDK if she'd move from downtown Nashville to rural Mississippi.

No other possibilities for immediate openings other than Jackson?

Maybe...

Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, North Carolina and Alabama are in my region. So those would be my immediate options.

Anything outside of that has to be approved.

Jackson is in no way comparable to Nashville in terms of things to do. But you are close to the coast and New Orleans which is nice

Buy a house on the Rez.

Jackson would blow for someone from out of state. I don't mind it, but it would be like me moving to Birmingham or Little Rock which would be fricking awful..

ETA: Food scene in Jackson is light years ahead of those other two mentioned cities.
