The SEC basketball tournament is kind of dumb imo.

It's nothing like the SEC Championship game, that involves 2 schools, 1 game, and both teams are playing for something very important.

In any given year in a basketball season there are like 2-3 at most teams in the conference worth a damn and the other 10-11 are either terrible or mediocre.

The basketball tournament is 4 days long and you don't know how long your team will be in it, so why travel all that way if you're gonna get bounced first game.

And on top that, winning the tournament is nothing more than bragging rights. Almost always the team that wins it was going to get an NCAA bid anyway and other than the honor of calling yourself tournament champions it means nothing. The real tournament starts the next week.

So ya, it really doesn't matter where they stick the basketball tournament, it's never gonna be that big of a deal.

I actually agree with this especially when the tournament is set up to be a "everybody gets a ribbon" environment geared at extracting money at the expense of quality or fan driven games.

I agree 100% and why I have always advocated fewer teams in the tournament but played in a baseball double elimination format. In my view put the best 4 or 8 teams in the conference in the tourney and then play a double elimination type system. This insures several things.

#1 games that actually matter between the better teams in the conference
#2 puts real value on the regular season to even make the post season
#3 means every fan base would get to see at least 2 games over the weekend played by their team
#4 eliminates weekday games so more fans can actually attend weekend games
#5 would show the SEC was well ahead of the rest of the country in terms of innovative thinking
#6 stands would be much more full in the early rounds so the games would look better on TV

You could do a 4 team weekend like this :

friday night
Game #1 = (1) seed vs (4) seed
Game #2 = (2) seed vs (3) seed

saturday
Game #3 = Game #1 loser vs Game #2 loser (elimination game)

saturday night
Game #4 = Game #3 winner vs lower seed of Game #1 or Game # 2 winner (elimination game)

sunday afternoon
Game #5 = Game #4 winner vs higher seed of Game #1 or Game # 2 winner (championship game game)

If you did 8 teams you follow a similar format but do it over 2 weekends. Maybe do the first weekend at host schools and do the following weekend at a fixed site like nashville.
