If Barkley would have been studying a playbook instead of doing blow and smashing SoCal trim JFF wouldn't have gotten the press he did.

You make a good point, in a way. Manziel is tremendous but I've read recent statements where he seems to refer to himself in the 3rd person, as if 'JFF' is an alternate entity. It'll be interesting to see if fame has had an adverse effect.
