I wonder if hail state offends him in any way. I always think of hail hitler when i hear it.

Heil in German is "Help". Hail does not = heil.
When the Nazi's saluted him as Heil Hitler they were basically saying "Help Us Hitler"
Very similar to the British cheering with "God Save the Queen"
