You are saying BYRNE leaked the $16 million loan?

What a load!

quote:

The most recent open records request answered by Texas A&M involved documents tied to a $16 million loan given to the Athletic Department - a line of credit made public only because (former A&M President) Murano mentioned it in a self-evaluation during her performance review.

Former president Robert Gates initiated the loan but never signed a contract, prompting Murano to get one signed soon after she learned about within months of taking office.

The documents obtained by the newspaper show at least one request by the Athletic Department to have the loan "forgiven." E-mails and interviews with officials reveal a department in turmoil as the flagship university's finance department takes over the checkbook for the Athletic Department.

Soon thereafter, this university president was run out on a rail.

You are saying that Byrne leaked all this to weed out people in the athletics department finance section that he wanted gone? I don't believe that, but it totally backfired, as Byrne was left with egg on his face, and the university took over the athletics department's fiduciary duties. The ensuing audit was highly critical of Byrne, who also was run off.

are seriously challenging if we paid back a 16m bridge loan from 10 years ago?

You're goddamnn right I am.

The problem persists to this day:
quote:

"We don't have a lot of financial maneuverability here in the athletic department right now," Hyman said. "But hopefully, when the [SEC] television network comes on in a couple of years we'll have more flexibility."

Face it -- when Texas got the Longhorn Network, coupled with the financial difficulties within the A&M athletics department, you peckerwoods needed cash fast, and that's why you left the Big 12 for the cozy financial confines of the SEC.

It was all about $$$$, which you need(ed) badly.

I thought we weren't your rival anymore, yet you stalk us on an SEC board?

texashorn,

It's a long and complex story you don't understand whatsoever. The loan and audit were all part of the internal battles A&M had years ago with Murano replacing Gates and fighting with McKinney followed by her being fired (as well as McKinney eventually being shown the door) and Loftin and Byrne getting along like oil and water until Byrne was shown the door.

It is true that A&M didn't make nearly as much money when we sucked a few years back in the Big 12. Not exactly a shock. It's also true that part of the reason for the SEC move was money, I don't see why that is a problem. Most of all it is true that A&M is seeing a MASSIVE increase in donations, merchandise sales, and overall support since the SEC move. Once the new Kyle is in place it will be a massive cash machine if A&M can sell it out which looks very likely at this point.

You are also correct in how the seats are handled. You just get the right to your seats if you have enough "points" but you still have to make the appropriate donation. There are a few exceptions, most notably the Endowed Scholarship Donors that are still there (about 3k), some of which got lifetime tickets and some got 30 year tickets. They are settling all of those with the rebuild though (which is going to be messy but needs to be done). Most importantly though, when the new Kyle is in place essentially everyone will be starting over. You will still have your "points" but the sweetheart deals are gone. Even the faculty discounts are going away. They are setting it up for the long term and the demand is proving to be there.

One last thing to consider, A&M still hasn't gotten a dime from the SEC move yet. Our first SEC TV check arrives in June so all of this is AFTER the Big 12 buyout.

If you don't think A&M is a sleeping giant that has awoken and growing like wildfire you are in denial.

fricking longhorns.

You jackasses masturbate to that overblown bridge-gap loan talking point because you NEED to make A&M appear weak. Why the hell would you dicksuckers even care otherwise? It's the nature of your fan base. You MUST make everyone around you have the appearance of weakness or your insecure, pink-chino-wearing masses will overdose on anxiety meds.

That internal nature of your broadway-musical-dancing hoards is the very thing that has locked you into a shitty conference clad in iron chains, yoked to Baylor, Dust Baylor, and now Purple Baylor. You HAD to make CERTAIN that everybody knew that A&M was NOT valuable to the big 12, and that A&M's departure DID NOT MATTER. What you really were doing, despite being stupid and lacking of foresight, was to UNYOKE A&M from the Baylors, and yoke them SOLELY to YOU. That need to make A&M look weak was apparently stronger than any other need, including doing what is best for your athletic department. Yet, A&M was not your REAL rival (another attempt to make A&M appear weak), and here you are, on the SEC Rant.

fricking CLASSIC. Don't kill yourself yet. I am enjoying the sweet taste of those burnt orange tears.
