Cohen says sophomore RHP Brandon Woodruff underwent surgery this morning. He will not pitch again this year Cohen says.

I'm assuming this is on his arm. If so, he really wasn't right all year after his injury in the Cape/this fall.

But he noted that it's "not major" and it's not related to a ligament. "It's something that's been gnawing at him for a little while."

So not Tommy John's surgery, which is good.

The surgery was for bone spurs in his elbow, or so I have heard.

ETA: A friend of mine who pitched in college had this same problem and was back pitching in a few months. Unfortunately he will miss out on playing in the Cape

As long as he is 100% for next year. We are going to need him on the weekend.

If he can come back 100% a weekend rotation of R. Mitchell, Lindgren and Woodruff is really good.

If all goes well he should be back for fall practice. He and Mitchell need to get their shite together and step up next year.

Glad they figured out exactly what was wrong with him and could get him back on track toward being fixed.

I'm pretty sure he will be eligible for medical redshirt if we choose to go that route -- but he's a 3-yr MLB talent if he gets it together, so I really don't know how much that helps us in the long-term toward keeping him...

You really think he would sign if he fell all the way to the 10th? I don't know the guy so I can't speak to his situation, but if I had that kind of talent, I would work my arse off and come back to potentially double or triple my signing bonus with a good senior year. Obviously there are risks, but it could pay off big-time in the long run.

Your money/leverage year is the junior year. He likely would lose money if he doesn't go this year.

Exactly.

Mitchell is gone. And as we improve as a baseball program, the vast majority of players for us will be 3 year guys...

Hope he comes back 100% next season... Hopefully he's a weekend starter and makes some big money in 2014.
