Alford as we know has applied for a waiver to not sit out this season. After he spoke with the NCAA compliance officer, he feels very optimistic in getting the waiver. Probably doesn't mean anything but our safety position would become completely stacked if he gets said waiver. Brassell and Alford are our most athletic DBs and both will start next year if they play.

Speaking of Brassell, he has been splitting reps with the 1's Whats interesting is he split reps with Sawyer, not Senquez. Common sense tells you from that that Senquez is our best corner at the moment. This is huge, given we know how good Sawyer is. If Brassell can play we are stacked in the secondary. Deep and talented.

Conyers is pretty damn good. I know we have some elite tackles coming in but they will sure have their work cut out for them to take his spot.

Lastly I mentioned last week that DT would be a DE for us. I got that info from a GA and didnt say anything until I saw someone else say the exact same thing on Neil's board. To my knowledge DT is still backing up Mike and not taking reps at DE. Now that could mean the GA was mistaken, it could also mean that Wommack wants to let DT finish out the spring with the LBs for various reasons and then develop him into a DE in the off season. Who knows.

It will be interesting what we do with Chief and DT. Wommack said he couldn't afford to not start either. Definitly a good problem to have

Good info. Hoping Alford gets cleared to play, that would be huge for our (usually very weak) secondary.

DT has looked outstanding at linebacker so far in practice. It's great to see him healthy and on the field again.

I said a while back that I think USM is going to seriously regret losing Alford. Kid is just a freaking athlete.

Sawyer is a decent player but I never thought he was great. Just a good player. He isnt aggressive enough in coverage. He is a sure tackler and has decent cover skills but he isnt going to take chances, will always play it safe.

Brassell is a NFL corner. He's one of those guys you watch and you just know he is a NFL player. Even a untrained eye can look and see this guy has that "it" factor. Truly hope he can get the grades.

Glad to see Conyers doing his thing.

You can really see Freeze building the depth necessary to compete at this level. This season there should be no starters on the KR team which would be huge.

Seriously? What is he citing in his waiver as the reason he transferred?

His guardian got a job at USM coaching and that is why he went to USM. His guardian then was let go with the rest of the coaching staff. His entire college decision was ripped apart in half a year. Coaches sons don't get waivers though when they transfer to their new school that their father takes a job at so I'm not sure how much of a shot he has

Not true at all. I live in Hattiesburg and know the story. The waiver is a LONG shot IMO. The waiver has more to do with safety reasons dealing with the altercation that happened to Alford on campus in which he was arrested last November.

Steve Buckley isn't Alford's guardian nor was he fired from Southern Miss, actually he was the only coach retained.

No he wasn't. Monken retained Buckley. He'll have to come up with something else.

The waiver has to do with a safety issue on campus at USM, which is a result of the altercation that Alford got arrested for when a USM student threatened him. I dont want to get into all of the details, but it has nothing to do with the coaching staff at Southern Miss.

Senquez was our best corner the last quarter of the season, he should be really good this year.

Safety is a concern as far as coverage goes, so building depth (Chief) is epic win.

Depth is a big issue this season, just like 2012, but not as bad obviously.

2014 we gon be stacked, tho.

We have 3 legit SEC CB's if Snoop makes the grades and 3 safeties (Prewitt, Elston and Cheif). If we can develope 1 more of each we will be in pretty damn good shape at DB.

Unless they were early enrollees like Mark Dodson and Christian Morgan then they have to wait

They usually enroll in the June session of summer classes and work out with the team in the summer.
