Had a big-time commitment to the 2016 class today: LHP Rian Haire (Hudson, N.C./South Caldwell) pledged to the Gamecocks.
Haire is the #1 NC prep prospect for the 2016 cycle, the #6-ranked LHP in the nation, and the #50-ranked prospect overall regardless of position per PerfectGame.
TBS wrote up a free article on the commitment here:

The Gamecocks are still raking in the elite talent...hopefully it starts to pay dividends for us in the near future....

And as we get one, so do we lose on another....
2016 top target and top SC LHP Ryne Huggins (Newberry/Newberry) has chosen to commit to Clemson over USC. Others recruiting him were UNC and NC St. Huggins is a Tiger legacy as his father was a relief pitcher for Clemson back in the day, and Ryne has made many visits to the CU campus.
So we get the top LHP from NC, but lose the top LHP from SC. Between the two, Haire is the higher-rated talent, but we probably had a better chance of keeping Huggins from the draft than we'll have with Haire...

South Carolina landed its second infielder in as many days with the commitment of Joe Rizzo (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton). He chose the Gamecocks over Clemson, Maryland and Virginia on Monday night.

South Carolina’s recruiting class just continues to get better. Corner infielder Joey Polak (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame) became the seventh commitment of the 2016 class for the Gamecocks and the first who projects as a corner infielder.
Polak is the seventh commitment of the 2016 class and is the third infielder joining second baseman Carlos Cortes and shortstop Grant Bodison.
Polak is ranked as the No. 32 player in the country and second-best third baseman nationally by Perfect Game. Four of the seven commitments are ranked in the top 55 nationally.
Our class, if we can get them to come to SC and not go Pro, is going to be a monster. This Polak guy is a huge pickup, but he's a Top 50 overall player and rated as the 2nd best 3rd Basemen, so there's a high probability that he's going to get a deal he likes in the Draft.

no worries. Do you know what our '15 class is ranked right now?

Not a clue, don't have a sub for Perfect Game and I think they update that via their insider info.

2015 class is ranked #6 in the country according to Perfect Game
2016 is insider info, not sure about our ranking there.
For reference our 2014 class was ranked #5 in the country

PK had a write up on Rizzo.
quote:
3B Joe Rizzo (5-11 195) of Vienna, VA committed to USC Monday night. He picked the Gamecocks over Clemson, Maryland and Virginia. He’s projected as a third baseman and is ranked 177th Overall in the country by PerfectGame.com. Here’s the scouting report from PerfectGame: Strong well-proportioned athletic build. 7.13 runner, light on his feet defensively, moves well side to side, quick release from a compact arm action, strong arm with good carry, very solid third base tools defensively. Left handed hitter, aggressive swing approach with very good bat speed, front side pulls out often, looking to pull and lift the ball, has an uppercut swing plane, squared the ball up consistently in games despite balance/effort issues at times, ball comes off the barrel hard and showed his power. Very high energy player with tools. Good student.

The 2016 class is getting better and better! Hope we can keep most of these stud prospects into the program, but it will be hard I'm sure...

-- The 2015 recruiting class has been basically complete for a while now with the exception of a junior college walk-on or two. There is a player out there who may be too good to pass up though in right-handed pitcher Ashe Russell (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral), who decommitted from Notre Dame a few weeks ago.
Russell wants to commit to South Carolina and the coaching staff has spent time trying to put together a scholarship package attractive enough to earn his signature. Russell, who is ranked as the No. 7 player in the country by Perfect Game, is likely to visit sometime in August but a firm date has not yet been set. Russell is also considering Vanderbilt
quote:
-- A 2016 right-handed pitcher to keep an eye on is right-hander Zach Linginfelter (Sevierville, Tenn/Sevier County), who is has flown under the radar until recently but should see his national ranking by Perfect Game jump the next time they’re released. Linginfelter has been offered by South Carolina and has always admired the Gamecocks program.
quote:
-- A name to keep an eye on in the 2017 class is right-handed pitcher Brady Scott (Powder Springs, Ga./Hillgrove), who is 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds already. The Gamecocks have already checked out Scott on two occasions and really like what he brings to the table in terms of a power fastball, which has already been up to 89 miles per hour at a Perfect Game event. Scott has interest in Georgia Tech, LSU, North Carolina and South Carolina.

TL Hanna 2015 RHP Adam Hill (6-5 190) made a commitment to play baseball at USC Monday according to DiamondProspects.com.

South Carolina handed out an offer to class of 2017 shortstop Mason Streater (Duncan/Byrnes), who is a player we’ve mentioned on the site a few times. Streater has the tools to play either middle infield position but does project to stay at shortstop.
quote:
One player that South Carolina really liked was class of 2016 right-handed pitcher Colby Lee (Latta/Latta), who also spoke with the coaching staff at the conclusion of the event. Lee did grow up a Clemson fan but he is going to give the Gamecocks a shot to recruit him. He sat in the upper 80s at the Palmetto Games and is very athletic. He’s not a max effort pitcher.

-- South Carolina lost one of its 2015 commitments, outfielder/RHP Sam Finnerty (Pelham, Ala./Pelham) last week when he decided to decommit. He was primarily concerned about playing time at South Carolina. He committed to Alabama on Sunday.

That's part of what happens when you have these consecutive Top5 classes. A lot of the guys who would have been college stars go Pro early, and then you have some really great guys left who make your rosters awesome and deep. Some guys who are studs in their districts or even state will look at that roster and incoming class and try to find more PT somewhere. I knew we were really loaded when Cal Ripken's kid dd that a while back.
This coming year we'll have a 2 Deep that could all start at most of the other schools in the country.

Will be doing some OP updating over the next few days to add the '17 class and just add a link to the '14 class like the '13 class. Will also update any info regarding the '15 & '16 classes as well.

South Carolina picked up its second right-handed pitcher commitment in the 2016 recruiting class when Michael Bienlien (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) made his pledge. Bienlien chose the Gamecocks over offers from Miami, N.C. State, Duke and several others.
Bienlien is ranked as the No. 283 player in the country and the No. 81 player nationally at his position. He’s ranked as the eighth-best player in the state of Virginia and is also a 4.0 student.
