First Andy Bauer and now Markel Smith have decided, as of now, that Mizzou is not their college of choice. They were two good power football players that would have been a great foundation in a couple of years for the RIGHT offense to use in the SEC.

We are installing something that is much more focused on power football. We'll be under center more, we'll be using true TE's more, we'll have blockers in the backfield more. We are definitely moving more towards power, but with that flash of finesse and speed too. I like the combo... think we were leaning on speed and finesse too much last year.

I agree Mogray. I think we always had the speed last year, but lack the size with it. I think this year, provided the O-line stays healthy, we might do alright. I'm excited to get Josey back. From what I've heard, he's a tick faster than before his injury. Should be fun to watch.

There was a post on PowerMizzou that seriously concerned me. This was from a board member so take it with a grain of salt, but its not like this is very hard to imagine true. This was in response to a thread on Markel decommitting.

quote:

Maybe that is because what people are saying is true. I talked to an assistant coach of an MCC program this weekend and he had some pretty bleak things to say about Mizzou. He said there is absolutely no excitement around the program at all right now, and that the number of times coaches have dropped by school has slowed down considerably over the past 2-3 years. He also said "when Urban Meyer is making more stops at the office than the head coach of the in-state program that is pretty bad," and that the staff is just getting outworked at building relationships with kids. Ole Miss gets a lot raised eyebrows with the stuff they are pulling lately, but this guy also said he hasn't seen a coaching staff work harder at recruiting than they have over the past year. I wasn't surprised to hear any of this, but it's clear this program is trending in the wrong direction right now.

Stripes, I also think a lot of these in state h.s coaches love to hate on Mizzou.

I remember the Desmet guy wearing a Wisco sweatshirt in his interview, it seems to be more popular to hate on Mizzou than to embrace them if you're a Missouri high school coach. I think a lot of that comes from Mizzou having a long tradition of taking some 2-3 star guys from other states over comparable Missourians.

Very valid point. The thing that scares me is the Urban Meyer comment. I have heard before that Urban Meyer just completely outworked Pinkel from a few different people for Ezekiel. And while we can say he is a diva all that we want, I think at some point that he was willing to come to Columbia. We need to figure SEC recruiting out.

One thing I dont understand is though, why do people think that we will just suddenly get great recruiting classes even if we get 8 wins this year. In the Big XII we would have good seasons and crap classes as well. I certainly hope we can turn it around and get more classes like 2010, but I am skeptical.

There is an easy way to fix h.s. coaches view towards Mizzou. Show up in their offices more than Urban or Freeze or whoever. No excuse for that shite and no, they're attitudes aren't going to change if you're not there spreading the love. Pinkel may think it's beneath him to cater to h.s. coaches but he either better view it as building relationships and do it or he just needs to bite the bullet and start catering if that's how he wants to view it. Either way, their efforts lately have been lacking by all accounts and shite needs to change or he needs to go.

On the flip side of all this, you have Markel's HS coach commenting about talking to Ford, mizzou's recruiter for the St.Louis area. It appears there is working relationships between Mizzou and some HS coaches. He had nothing negative to say about Ford or Mizzou.

I don't doubt there are other relationships that may not be as strong. More neutral.

As far as Markel goes. His HS coach said he is still strongly considering Mizzou. He just wants to take a look at other opportunities. Can't blame the kid for that.

It's called finding a new coach at the states flagship university.

6-6
7-5
8-4

None of those records will fix this festering problem.

I stated on this site and a few others that I did not want David Yost fired but giving a new position, Head Recruiter. He LOVED recruiting and it showed he was much better with that than calling plays. If he was calling the plays.

It is funny that the first two players who commit to Ole Mizzou have now changed their mind. One to Ole Miss and the other one being recruited heavily by Ole Miss. Does HCGP and company think that once someone says I want to be a Tiger it is over?!?!?

We came into a conference that was notorious for breaking rules when it comes to recruiting. Schools that spend millions of dollars on recruiting. We need a Head Recruiter and Yost would have been perfect !!

This will be the down fall of HCGP. He is not going to be able to out recruit Ole Miss let alone any of the powerhouses !!!!

I agree, you cant blame him for that. But every decommit says they are still considering the school. The kid knows what he needs to know about here, and rarely do they come back.

I hear you about Yost and I wouldn't have been opposed to him staying in that type of role. The problem is, I don't know if it was workable to do that. Pinkel had already elevated his status on the team where doing so would be a demotion and I'm not sure how that could be done and still work for everyone.

If I had to make a bet right now Stripes, I'd say he's gone too. If he just wanted to look around he could have done that without decommitting. The fact he actually decommitted tells me he wants out as much as he just wants to look around. Hope I lose that bet though and see him in black and gold.

I read an article right after Yost was let go. I cannot remember who wrote it or what site it was on but the writer had quotes from Yost and he sounded depressed during the 2012 season and relieved to be let go.

I think he would have jumped at the chance to stay at Mizzou and do what he was best at, recruiting.
