Freak. RT @evansilva: Tom Rinaldi reported #SouthCarolina DE Jadeveon Clowney ran a 4.5 40 at 270 pounds during recent winter workouts

He's officially 6-6, 273. That's about 10-15 pounds heavier than last season, and he still runs like a RB. He will be unstoppable this season!

I'm sure he could shave a little bit more time off if he cut his dreads.

Jesus, he will blow the combine up when he's done here.

Sutton was 14th in the SEC in sacks last year, as a backup. Now that he'll start I think he could get enough reps to ge into the top 7 and Clowney should end up being #1.

I'm always skeptical of the 40 times listed by a team. Too often we hear one of our guys ran a 4.4 or something and then they go to the combine and run a 4.55. Hopefully it's accurate though, if he runs a 4.5 at the combine that would be faster than any DL ran the previous year. The DL 40 yard record is 4.43 by M Lawson back in 2006.

Yes... the best investment we have made. Saw a tweet the other day stating just how much exposure Clowney has brought to Carolina since he signed. It was unreal.

IMO, it's been a lot of players in the past 3 seasons: Alshon, Marcus, and now Jadeveon have really catapulted us. These are great times for our FB program. Let's hope we can continue things for a while into the future...

I agree 100%. Clowney achieved "Rock Star Status" with that hit in the Outback Bowl. Still the #1 play on ESPN after three months is impressive.

I saw Clowney listed at 275 near the end of last season. ESPN or possibly the gamecock roster, forget which/where I saw that. But I remember specifically wondering how many 275 guys run a 4.45 40, and wondering if we'll see clowney taking any handoffs in 2013.

The roster that came out recently has him at 272 lbs, and the S&C coaches said he ran a 4.5 during winter workouts. I've followed recruiting long enough that I don't trust any 40 times for numbers that aren't independently verified (like at a SPARQ/Rivals camp or a combine.)

I have no doubt that's he's still incredibly fast for a guy his size though, but I'll wait for his 40 time to come out at the NFL combine.

We haven't used him yet on offense for the past 2 seasons, although he did play some offense in HS. He could be a hell of a FB on short yardage situations, but I don't know if we'll do that. If we ever used him, I think we might do it on misdirection.

You could imagine being a defender on a 4th and short/goal situation in a meaningful game and seeing Clowney lineup in the backfield. You'd probably think he was going to get the ball and most likely everybody would be looking at him to do just that.
