Drinkin some Jack, fllippin channels, just watched "Winter's Bone" an academy award flick filmed in SE Mizzou. It's kind of like meth lab "Deliverance" with the hot Hunger Games chick. Louisiana has the "Waterboy" documentary( I went to the Manning camp in Hammond). Texas has the "Chainsaw Massacres" and "Last Picture Show". Mississippi does not count since it is the vacation destination of choice to feel good about where you live now. The one state that does not fit in seems to be Florida......

Actually filmed around the Forsyth, MO area which is in the southwest part of the state near Branson.

That movie was so realistic it made anyone who grew up in small town Missouri a little uncomfortable. The Ozarks are basically like Appalachia in eastern Kentucky or Tennessee. Very backwoods, very clannish. That was a great movie. I got to see a screening of it where the director was there, at a film festival in KC. It's amazing that a director from NYC and a producer from Washington state got it so right.

Badass and fricked up movie...Jennifer Lawrence was pretty amazing for being so young and unknown at that point. People should watch it if they haven't yet.

Florida has Miami Vice. Not SEC material.
Just leave.

John Hawkes, who played Teardrop, as awesome too. Scary dude. I'd hoped he would be nominated for an Oscar, but he wasn't.
They actually hired a lot of locals for small parts in that movie, and the musicians were all local. Those musicians have played in Columbia.

Arkansas is in the Ozarks. They just could not find anyone who could read to help with the movie.

Those guys are Mizzou professers now.

Hawkes is a good actor. He was in the HBO series Deadwood. Awesome show, but only lasted three seasons for some dumb arse reason.

The dumb reason was that all the actors got big money gigs with AMC shows like Breaking Bad and that motorcycle show. Plus others were getting bit time movie gigs or spots on FX series like Justified.
Word also was that the cast did not exactly get along all the time. But I agree, helluva show while it lasted. Would smash that Vandy hooer Joaney Stubbs in a heartbeat.
John Ham, Breaking Bad, he's a Mizzou Tiger, right?
All SEC states have connections to big time actors and big time movies.

Ham and Brad Pitt are Tigers. Although Pitt was a couple credits short of graduating. Left for Cali instead of graduating. Good decision.

Yes, Jon Hamm is a Mizzou guy. So is Brad Pitt. Tom Berenger. Chris Cooper. Kate Capshaw. There are a lot of Hollywood types with Mizzou connections.

Also, Tom Berenger and Robert Loggia
