When's the last time the state of Tennessee produced a player as good as Julio Jones or T.J. Yeldon?

Patrick Willis, Michael oher, Frank Herron?

UT needs to get into Memphis. I know Oxford is close, but shreveport ain't far from Austin or Fayetteville but we still own it in recruiting.
There is enough talent in that state that owning it+getting some oos guys in a talent rich region should be easy to get back near the top in the east.

Easier said than done. Ole Miss, Alabama, and Arkansas have fortified that city for their own purposes. It's going to take a lot to push them out.

Oxford to Memphis is a little over an hour's drive. Your comparison really doesn't hold.

Also, the town itself has probably as many Ole Miss fans as Tennessee fans, and the Commercial Appeal covers Ole Miss as closely as they do any other SEC school if not more closely, so really Memphis is an Ole Miss town.

True, but Memphis has always been more Ole Miss territory than UT territory.
