No doubt the A&M/Texas rivalry is a unique one. So many twists and turns, and the schools and their relationship has changed so much over time. I don't think anyone that is paying attention truly thinks A&M is defined by Texas anymore and haven't been for some time. We still will always hate Texas and revel in their agony and enjoy beating them but that's different.
To me we exorcised the "obsessed with Texas" demon fully when we fired Fran on the night he had just beaten Texas for the 2nd year in a row. If a coach can't save their job by beating your rival 2 years straight that rival no longer defines you.

To be fair, Franchione was fired as soon as the secret VIP newsletter was made public and had already "resigned" before the Texas game.

I think we're moving in the right direction. But I still think that little brother complex lingers.
That is completely eradicated by foregoing an opportunity to play them.

We didn't let him go year 4 like we should have due to finances and because he beat Texas that year.
The exorcism began the day Bonfire fell, got a boost the day we went to the SEC, and will be done the day LSU is played rivalry weekend and "Saw Em Off" is just simply a part of an old song like Gig Em is just a hand signal.
