A&M is for some reason his dream job. He freaking sat on his hands and waited while the AD made up his mind; it was fairly obvious Sumlin was not the first choice, and was treated as such.

That's easy to explain.

First, some coaches don't want to deal with overpaid, pampered pro athletes that can't be disciplined for anything. (Most likely why Saban won't ever return to the pros--"the process" would never work in the NFL)

Second, he's within decent driving distance of two top-10 metro areas (Houston and DFW) in a state well-known for producing top-level college football talent. Being the lone in-state school in what is essentially the NFL Development League helps greatly.
