Melvin Watkins beat Centenary and SE Louisiana as a head coach at A&M...both times, Kennedy was the opposing coach.

The Watkins Curse is much more ingrained and has been in action much longer than just 2 games.

"When the Texas Aggies take the court, no team coached by Melvin Watkins can win. So let it be written, so let it be done." - The Watkins Curse

Unfortunately, the only way to break the Watkins curse is with a counter curse or a more powerful one.

Billy Kennedy is winless against teams with Melvin Watkins on the coaching staff (0-1 with Centenary and 0-1 with SE Louisiana).

That isn't a more powerful curse ... isn't the Watkins curse going on like a freaking 20 game run?

0-16 conference his last season, then no wins against us since then ... that is more than 20 actually.

It's 27 straight conference games and 25 overall games.

However, the only way to lose to Melvin is to have another Melvin on the sideline.

Kennedy is not as bad as Melvin, I am more inclined to believe our current issues are more a victim of circumstance type of issue.

only 8 scholarship players, only 3 played last year, a recruit with clearing house issues who I think could be a big contributor, lots of things coming together to give us a crappy run here.

Not saying I think we win vs Arkansas, I am just having fun with the Melvin curse. But I am not resigned to the fact that we will lose. You never know, that is why you play the game.

I do think that BK has brought in some good talent (better than what was left to him) and that when we get Shawn Smith cleared and Tony Trocha in next year we could see some immediate improvement. If Trocha was playing this year he would be our best big man no doubt, that will be a significant upgrade.

Exhibit A: lost to Southern at home

Exhibit B: being taken to the wire by the only service academy never to make the dance

Exhibit C: getting outrebounded by Houston Baptist.

Watkins' 0-16 Conference season he had Bernard King, Antione Wright and Acie Law. That is the Bernard King who left A&M as the all time leading scorer in the Big 12 and Texas A&M and 2 furture top 15 draft picks ... when BK starts losing with that type of talent I will be concerned.

In the mean time he is increasing the talent and hopefully will get the team geling (though I doubt we will see much improvement till next year).

Despite BKs struggles it is impossible to deny that he did not have the greatest of teams to start with. Turge recruited horribly his last few years here and left the team soft and with no true leader.

BK has a challenge of not only winning but reversing the slide that Turge started us on. The results are not being seen on the floor but they are being seen in recruiting.

You're seriously excusing a loss to Southern at home? I can understand losing to St. Louis in Kansas City or Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, but a SWAC team...at home?

You realize that of our 3 losses the least likely to be in the big dance come March is OU right?

At the moment Southern looks to be good to run through the SWAC while OU lost to SFA.

A loss to a SWAC team at home is a RESUME KILLER

If we had any aspirations of making the tournament, we now have to basically beat a team like Florida or Missouri ON THE ROAD to make up for that.

We were not going to be making the dance this year period. Those expectations are/were unreasonable given the crap we went through last year off the court and the lack of depth (and even lack of front line talent) that we currently have.

And OU will be just as much of a "resume killer" as Southern does at the end of the year. Conference affiliation doesn't matter that much, especially not if that lower tier conference team goes on to win their conference and make the dance.

A HOME LOSS is weighed far more heavily than a neutral site loss.

OU will still end up being a "bad loss"

Again ... doesn't really matter, this team was never going to make the dance this year.

You have BKs cock in your mouth. In a non PC world he would've been fired after last year.

For what exactly? Having significant players miss significant portions of the year injured?

Please show me one coach that has ever been fired after 1 season, it has nothing to do with being PC it has everything to do with continuity and wanting to maintain your staff and your players.

I have already stated that I could care less if he gets let go after this year as long as we have someone better already picked out but just be prepared to reap what you sow.

If he gets fired you lose all your staff, you lose Reese, and you lose Trocha; you think that we are bad now wait till the Turners graduate and you have no Reese and no tony Trocha coming in.

And then what type of coach would you hire? Who would want to come to a school that gives you 2 years riddled with injuries and player turnover, no fan support, no administration support. Yeah ... recipe for success there.

I have no great love for Kennedy. I also have no great love for Turgeon given the state of the program when he left. But I don't want to see our program go even further in the hole because of a knee jerk reaction to a rough patch.

I will even go so far as to say that hiring Turgeon was the biggest mistake Aggie basketball has made in the last decade.

When BCG bailed on us we should have given the job to Buzz Williams on a golden platter.

The loss to Southern is too much to overcome, just like the loss to Rice last year was too much to overcome.
