Gottfried has done a pretty good job at NC State... a sweet 16 appearance in his first year and has the wolfpack in the top 25 in 2013. With Grant's recent struggles and similar performance as MG (good recruiting, no clue offensively, playing down to competition, etc) , have your opinions of Gottfried's abilities changed? Is it possible that it's the program, not the coach?

sometimes you don't know how good you have it until it's gone.

NC State was in the top ren earlier in the season, now at the bottom of the top 25.

mark my word, NC State will underwhelm this year.

I have degrees from both NC State and Alabama, and I was most definitely not pleased when Yow announced Gottfried as the Pack's new head coach.

Gottfried is a great recruiter, but an absolutely underwhelming coach. After a few years of making runs into the tournament, I think that Gottfried will follow the same pattern he did at Alabama and will try to coast on the merits of his previous seasons' success.

This is really stupid. We played a shitty game in Puerto Rico to oki state and then lost a close one AT #2 Michigan.

Pollsters were harsh, dropped us out of the top 25, and now we won 8 in a row and will prob be back in the top 20 next poll.

Possibly. But if we get 2nd in the ACC and you come back with. "but they were picked to finish first!!!" thatll be bullshite.

eta: Sorry if this comes off as harsh and confrontational cuz I like you as a poster

But also I think State overachieved last year. And we have ridiculously high expectations this year considering we have little depth and lost our backup big man and no one seemed to think it would matter. (Transfer to ODU due to mothers cancer). So honestly I think meeting expectations is actually kinda unlikely. Sweet 16 would be a successful season.

I could see that... and he seems to perform when not a lot is expected. Not sure he's got what it takes to get a team to the final 4.

No. He was great at Alabama when he gave a shite. After the saban hire, he knew basketball was a distant second. Mark Gottfried was solid at Bama no matter what anyone says. He just doesnt want to coach a second fiddle sport.

right now though, im more concerned with Anthony Grant's underwhelming performance.

At least Gottfried will more than likely have you dancing come March.

Prediction:
NC State: 7 seed
Bama: pumpkin seed
