The one major thing Spurrier has over Saban is the innovation factor. Saban doesn't do anything special

With Spurrier though, he redefined what SEC football was. For decades SEC football was the type of game saban plays. Spurrier brought a 5 wide, fun n' gun that took damn near a decade for teams to figure out.

How many teams ran a 3-4 in college football before saban got to alabama? Spurrier is to offense in the 90's what Saban is to defense today. Alabama has had a top 2 defense nationally since 2008, if that isn't special what is?

It's executing to near perfection, but running a 3-4 isn't special. I think you mistook:

as me saying saban hasn't accomplished anything special, which is absolutely not what I was saying. I was saying saban's formula is pretty standard and 100s of coaches in America use the same one: play solid defense, run the ball, limit turnovers, and be disciplined in all aspects. That's no secret, it's just he's a master at it.

Spurrier brought something to the SEC that people hadn't seen and couldn't figure out, and took 5 or 6 years to finally catch up to it.
